This is one of the best posts I've read. This literally hits the nail on the coffin. We have a front office that has no idea how to judge talent or draft. It happens. The Knicks are terrible at it and whoever is on the Lakers aren't that great either. But they land stars and know how to quickly build around them. I have no clue what this franchise thinks it's trying to achieve at this point because our draft picks have been extremely underwhelming.

Need to sign a viable power forward. Tari is injury prone.

I posted this in the Draft 2006 thread, and obviously completely agree as well...

"The truth is, we just drafted poorly with our top picks the past 5 years. We chose Jalen Green, but could have had Mobley or Barnes instead. We chose Jabari, but could have had Jalen Williams instead, and we chose Sheppard, but could have had Stephon Castle instead...

The only thing holding this together is Amen in a weak draft class (can't shoot), Sengun (can't shoot), and Tari (can't stay healthy)...

FVV out for the season and DFS being one the worst Rockets FA signings in recent memory, it's a miracle we can still view ourselves as fringe "contenders" in the West..."

He’s the only forward off the bench. It’s Adams and a bunch of midgets. The Rockets need more size.

Stone is a young GM. He’s still learning on the job. Give him time, he even has a plan B this year. Hopefully there will be a plan C and D in the coming years.

That's vaguely what I recall as well, an alleged "on the radio" line. That's why I'd love to track down the actual quote and wording, because without it, it tends to become a game of telephone to suit agendas. In addition, with pro sports drafts, you can almost always count on guys who fall in the draft (and their agents, parents, etc.) to leak things about how it's "for the best." Nine times out of 10, it's mental gymnastics and PR to rationalize that they're better off not going to whoever passed on them.

Every word of this, correct. It is a real blemish and indictment. All I'm saying people can hold the org accountable for that mistake without throwing shade at media members for not chasing down answers to a conspiracy theory that no one can actually find the origin of, anyway. (I know you weren’t doing that, Nook, just speaking to the original post.)

They made the wrong pick at No. 2 overall and/or didn't develop properly. It is their job to try and make the right pick. That's the story.

True. I agree. The point I was trying to make was that they have all year to get under the tax why burn assets to get under now unless your going to make a move.

These yearly Stone trades drive me fcking crazy.

How many points in the playoffs this year will “cap flexibility” score for us?

This front office is officially garbage.

Let's see if Ime's offensive scheme degenerates another player.

DFS will always be a bad memory... his play and the season.

Probably the worst free agent signing in the franchise history, or at least in this millennium. Some may argue that Swift signing in the 05 summer was worse, but at least it had a great upside, which sadly did not happen. DFS on the other hand, just needed to function as a nice rotation player that can contribute 25 minutes a night with good defense around the perimeter, and on the other hand - knock down some open 3’s, with a 35% accuracy. Nothing special you know? But considering he’s injury, it was just a dumb big waste of money, in a season we had a window!! Just imagine if we tried to pursue NAW instead - a younger talent, that would also helped us filling that missing pg position due to Fred’s injury. True - DFS signing happened before Fred’s knee exploded. But even before the injury, we were short in guards, and if we signed a solid guy like NAW we could hit a huge jackpot. But instead, we signed a 32 non-exciting d&3 player, who turned out to not recover from the planned surgery he had. Stone really needs to admit that he fuc*** this one up, and I really hope he learned something for the future.

Rafael Stone overruling the Medical staff and signing DFS coming off of foot surgery. This was a horrible decision.

3 second picks will come back to bite the Rockets. The Rockets have no bench depth in scoring.

Replacing Trevor Ariza with James Ennis, Iman Shumpert both were terrible and unplayable, that was a Tillman Fertitta cost cutting move.
