also, and correct me if im wrong... FVV and DFS = Kyrie salary.... but if Mavs dont want DFS, we can now do the deal w the exception + FVV right? I would think this may help at the deadline as other teams flop and their ownership decides "its not their year" and look to trim the payroll... we can now supply a 25M expiring and take back like 37M... ?

Maybe, but I highly doubt we want to be a luxury tax team after trading three SRPs to get under the threshold.
I probably think more highly of Stone/Udoka than some of the people in this thread. But, I also just don't think anything really matters until you get a real star, a guy that can go get his own buckets at will and make plays for others if he's trapped. A better coach could maybe get us to the 2nd rd, a better GM could maybe craft better support cast. But, the Rockets aren't contenders if it's top 2 future leaders can't shoot a basketball or run an offense. There's been way more teams win a championship with mediocre GMs and coaching than teams win without a star.
The only diff i would say is that we were actually targeting tanking for 4 of Tillmans years... We purposefully tanked for Olajuwon and maybe Ming... but most often we were just bad... lol People are twisted on b2b 52 win seasons... we didnt have a single 52 win season from 1967-1989... the WCF vs Celts was a 51 win season... 52+ win seasons 1960s - 0 1970s - 0 1980s - 0 1990s - 4 2000s - 3 2010s - 5 2020s - 2 - with 4 seasons to go....
