When you mess around with 2nd round picks frivolously, you get on his bad side

Having a trade exception in that amount is valuable. There are definitely players that fall in that range.

as well I believe that this allows us to work under a different set of trade rules.

I am not advocating for the signing being a good one, but there are benefits in having the trade exception and dropping that salary

He’s so triggered, he’s contradicting himself from his days as Morey-apologist when we made all those LTS trades. :D

He’d be saying right now how, although he loves 2RPs, we can’t judge this right now bc LTS “opens up a lot of flexibility” for more signings and trades.

He’d add, “this could be a maneuver to get into an expansion of the Brown/PG trade or others.”

Okay. Now I understand we had till the end of the season to cut salary to avoid the repeater. So why pay so much to get off DFS now? His value was never gonna be lower. Maybe he even plays better and gets himself out of negative asset range. If we aren’t doing anything with the trade exception this kind of sucks. I understand ducking the repeater tax but I don’t understand doing it now at the expense of so much draft capital.

This deal is all about luxury tax savings. They could've gotten a legit player for dfs and three seconds if they wanted. I'm very doubtful they sign a free agent over the minimum.

Yeah, imo we can't judge this until closer to the end of free agency. He very well could pull a nice player with the additional dollars.

it definitely feel like you should try to have a second round pick most years, but that the talent pool in the second round is kind of mid-level and if you want, you can go get your guy by buying a pick.

The trade exception along with 7 million or so to spend off the side sounds good to me. It’s a bummer that the train didn’t work out and making us better last year but I can get behind using it like this Instead of holding onto him to aggregate salaries.

With NIL money second round picks aren’t as valuable as they once were.

I agree with @BimaThug that it shows a lack of patience which is an indictment on Stone, but on balance this move is fine. You weren’t going to be able to combine Fred and Dfs for something good later.

Can’t believe the lakers just got two 2nds for Ayton, but we are giving up three 2nds to move off DFS.
