Exactly, but I don't think Phoenix would have done it unless we added another pick. Booker and FVV would be an absolute horror as a backcourt.

He had a no trade clause. How do so many of you still fail to grasp this?

    This was before the extension.

That's... before his injury. He was our starting point guard and vital to our success the prior year. No one had turned on him then, you can dig up the threads on this board. This is just such revisionist history.

100% this. The posts make sense, for example, if you interpret "letting go of what you've known until now" to mean how to move or play a certain way given his surgery and rehab. Anyone who's rehabbed an serious injury will know that it's a difficult, long, and mentally exhausting process, even for average joes who are not world class athletes.

There were a ton of us that wanted FVV included in that trade including me. If the object was to get rid of Jalen, we could've traded him elsewhere. It's not revisionist at all. Phoenix simply wouldn't take Fred.

At time, he did not have a no-trade clause. The Rockets would have had to execute his team option for his max salary. As this would have hard-capped the Rockets at the 1st apron, they would have had to pay teams to offload salary to stay under the 1st apron.

Basically, to trade FVV for Durant would have most likely cost the Rockets more picks, likely still cost Green and Dillon, but have more salary flexibility this season that most people on this board want to punt anyway.

First off, they went seven games with an insanely talented Warriors team, and FVV was Houston's best player in that series. Suck isn't quite how I would sum that up.

Second, you don't win 52 games in the West because you have three good perimeter defenders, and especially not if you think the big man needs to be "protected" on top of it. If it was that simple, why not just start Aaron Holiday, Josh Okogie, and Jae'Sean Tate? Could save Tilman a whole lot of money, too.

Finally, your larger points are fair, for sure there were limitations to that team. Fred is far from a perfect player. All I'm saying is "bottom five" is completely incompatible with the results, along with all the advanced data that's out there. You don't just win 52 out of thin air, there has to be something you're not terrible at other than having a few plus defenders.

(As one specific example, Fred is historically elite at limiting turnovers, which was a big part of the possession-maxxing formula of that team. Limiting turnovers is a big part of offense at the PG position.)

Sure.... but this stuff only really started up once it was pretty clear the Rockets were not extending FVV and bringing in Marcus Smart....a player Ime loves almost as much as married women.

I think it's more likely this childish social media BS is about his role with the team

Back up. You would have rather traded Fred for KD?? This is pre-injury Fred we're talking about. The Fred who averaged 18.7 points, shot 43.5% from 3, and was at worst our second best player against the Warriors? Remember his 29 point Game 6 that got us to Game 7?

I'm sorry, but that's an insane take.

I respect your opinions. We'll just agree to disagree. We had a terrible half-court offense that year and we had a terrible half-court offense this year. Bringing FVV and Adams back from injury and adding another old guy that averages about 40 games a year and shoots poorly from 3, is not going to correct the problem. I do think Marcus or FVv improves our defense.

Can you give a list of comparable SGs that you think Reed can either emulate or become? Or even a high level one that he might not. Just curious because I don't see the SG thing *at all*.

Yup. Also, I think people are misinterpreting frustration with fans as frustration with the team. Rehabbing an ACL is a b****, and now he's got all sorts of people in his mentions and DMs saying all sorts of disrespectful things, all while he's working his ass off trying to get back. It's tough. And I do understand why fans are frustrated with the team's general situation (though obviously, no one should attack players directly). Just a vicious cycle.

I honestly don't disagree with any of that, all I'm saying is FVV does help you win games and is not a bottom 5 PG, and there's plenty of data and evidence to show that. (Well, he wasn't prior to his injury, we'll see what he looks like after.)
