    Pretty good. Heatmap is mostly gulf coast Texas (duh), lower Midwest (Springfield, MO) and southern Louisiana. MO and LA are pretty accurate given my parents.

    I remember op but don’t recall him being so stupid, do we know what happened to him? Anyway, I’ve been in NYC for more than 30 years and I still have a bit of a drawl and I’m damn proud of it.

    I appear to have none while here in NY State, but as soon as I go to Texas for a visit, the twang comes back with other selective sayings such as, fixin to, Y'all, spittin cotton, and yonder.

    Lived in Houston almost my whole life but somehow picked up an East Texas drawl more so than South Texas.

    It's because a good chunk of H-Town is the deep south.

    It's funny that someone says "I'm from Houston" but not East Texas, like I'm from South Texas.

    Where the hell do you think East Texas is vs South Texas?

    It's like you're talking about North Texas vs the Panhandle

    I circumvent the compass discussion with ‘I’m from the gulf coast’

    We don’t need to talk about DFW and their obsession with being ‘north’ Texas.

    Well, my friend, at least you don't think Houston is in South Texas

    What is considered part of the Northern Boundary for South Texas?

    • Bay City --> San Antonio --> Mexico
    • Matagorda --> San Antonio --> Mexico
    • Port Lavaca --> Somewhere South of San Antonio --> Mexico
    • Corpus Christi - Rockport --> Mexico

    The NYTimes also classified me as having a tilt to Louisiana even thought I have been in Louisiana for less than two days and I don't recall working with many people form Louisiana.

    I have thought about it some more and I don't remember the language - dialect quiz referring much to bad Tex Mex which I will tend to use in the right situations. So I have the test - quiz as somewhat flawed because it really didn't drill down deeply to the words in my vocabulary.

    Go watch Bernie.

    Or, I'll help you:

    "Life behind the pine curtain"

    "Oh, of course I left out the Panhandle, and well, a lot of people do"

    JAG came back to the BBS as “MacBeth” and quickly got a reputation as a long-winded braggart. He also became known for stealing ideas and then posting them like they were original ideas of himself. He jumped the shark, IMO, when he boasted about having sex with a p*rn star. He started to find himself in trouble on the BBS and left for a brief period. He returned a couple of months later with a tone deaf thread that heralded his comeback to the BBS. It didn’t end well and he has never been seen since.

    I made some edits to this map I found to reflect what I think the areas are:

    I am curious how the original creators of the Map decided what criteria to use when selecting which Region was the best fit for certain Counties.

    Lavaca County is classified as South Texas and is in the upper right of that Region where Central Texas (Turquoise), Gulf Coast (Yellow) and South Texas (Orange) meet.

    Distance wise, Lavaca County is about the same distance from Houston and San Antonio with Austin a bit closer.

    Culturally, it is a better fit with many of the counties in the Central Texas Region than with many of those in the South Texas Region.

    Hallettsville --> Houston
    106 Miles

    Hallettsville --> Austin
    96.5 Miles

    Hallettsville --> San Antonio
    106 Miles
