He's pretty clear about what he wants: roll back the 14A and return to the original founding. Imagine that. He still sees himself as culturally tied to that original America, but that culture has been constitutionally repudiated over and over again through the 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th Amendments, each one a formal rejection of some core part of what the founders originally established. The America he's romanticizing is one where women couldn't vote, Black people were enslaved, and birthright citizenship didn't exist for anyone who wasn't the right race. That's the "birthright" he's mourning.
if there was some way to cleanly separate blue cities and blue states from red ones/MAGA, I’d be all for #6
As someone who navigates the complexities of identity in the United States, I can tell you that the reason a person whose parents came from China won't be seen as truly American comes down to a deep-rooted social reality: people who look different stick out. Legally, anyone born here or naturalized is 100% American. But socially, the lived experience is often very different. Despite the undeniable progress this country has made through the civil rights movement, we are still a society that discriminates based on both skin color and culture.
If there is cultural similarity and racial similarity, you will get an actual melting pot effect. And for most, culture matches the importance of race so someone can look different but if they speak English and practice similar religions, they're more likely to be accepted. The reality is, we live in a cosmopolitan salad bowl rather than a melting pot.
My shocked face that Thomas voted against this......I have never been a fan of packing the court, but these obvious grifters (Thomas and Alito) should have some type of "ethics" clause that they adhere to...................they have been bought and paid for and now openly root for Project 2025, just as maga has allowed their racism to be front and center, the court is doing the same Good Lord maga is corrupt AF
Uncle Thomas is a white man in blackface and is the most corrupt judge on the SC out here doing work for the white supremacists with almost every decision…this level of cooning typically comes from childhood or adolescent trauma
"Damn, this line is so ****ing slow. And then, after I recover from sterilization, I still have to go through customs."
that usually comes from childhood or teenage trauma leading to feelings of inadequacy and self-hatred something happened to Uncle Thomas, and he became the sambo soldier for white supremacists that he is now
No we definitely live in a melting pot, it just takes longer to melt than perhaps some want. There is a vocal minority of people that are obnoxious and disgusting.
Also - I am fairly open minded of people having different opinions and reasons for their opinions. Having said that - I find the idea of anyone seriously entertaining the idea of getting rid of birth right citizenship repugnant and something I would expect from people that supported the Oklahoma City Bombing or sleep on their cousins couch because they won’t get a job and work around women or black people. What I find even more offensive is the disingenuous claim that it isn’t Constitutional when it is just about as constitutional as anything.
I’ve experienced this myself and it’s after seeming to get better from when I was a kid it’s getting worse. As someone who has been to China several times, even once on a trade mission, speaks the language and follows their media here is a secret. Spoiler Most Chinese don’t care about our politics and have no interest in voting in our elections. Many Chinese live American culture. They love burgers, they love our music and as we should know as Rockets fans they love the NBA. Chinese parents want to have kids here because they think that will give them a better shot in getting into US universities like CAL and UCLA. Or they think there are better entrepreneurial opportunities. Many of them want to have kids here not because the want the PRC to undermine the US but because they think it could be a good escape from the PRC.
