The issue last year wasnt just shooting, it was actually ball handling and defense in that Reed and Holiday were bad defenders so Udoka was unwilling to play them and would put in Tate or Okogie instead. Smart can handle the ball and take pressure from KD so he doesnt turn the ball over and he can defend 1-3 so he can cover up for Holiday/Reed on the defensive end. Sure he is a bad shooter but he can enable our other good shooters to do their thing. If you looked at the Lakers Luke Kennard's performance was tied to Smart when Smart started playing bad Kennard also couldnt get any shot off and became ineffective.
We had shooters man. Both Reed and Holiday shot 39% from 3. They just didnt play enough due to Udoka wanting defenders out there.
