If we're absolutely giving up on even pretending to be a serious franchise while Ime is here, why not?

The league has made tanking more complicated and less likely to succeed, but it's not impossible.

Scoot v. Sheppard is somewhat interesting. They are both 22 and played similar minutes last season. Last season...

    Scoot: 14 ppg; 3 rpg; 4 apg; .553 TS%
    Sheppard: 14 ppg; 3 rpg; 3 apg; .564 TS%

So the stats are pretty similar, with Reed being a bit more efficient. The biggest difference? Sheppard shot .394 from 3 on 7 3PA a game. Scoot? .35 on 5.4 3PA a game. In other words, Sheppard is already elite from 3, whereas Scoot is below league average for a guard.

All things being equal, I always take the player with an elite trait.

Jrue makes like 33M a year and is also old af. Our pg room is also full, Smart has positional versatility he can play 1-3.

I think Scoot can be had for less.

I think Reed has as much, if not more, upside.

Also Scoot has biological issues, iirc almost his entire family are athletes who had to retire early due to leg issues. He was always on borrowed time.

So you think that brief playoff performance is a sign of more to come or more of an anomaly? I've watched alot of Blazer games and im not certain. Let me ask a question, if he was a late 1st rd pick, would you feel the same vs being a former high pick?

I wouldn’t trade for Scoot based solely on the idea that his good playoffs mean he will get better. But it’s certainly a good sign and if you’re throwing away a “known” star in Ja it doesn’t hurt to take a flyer for 2 years on Scoot. Seems like a low risk high reward trade. I doubt they’re expecting Scoot to become Ja.

My next question is, what makes Scoot better than Reed? Im not saying I wouldnt take a shot, it may be the Fox / Haliburton thing.

I wouldn't mind having them both on the floor together off the bench. Nice little 1-2 punch.

I don’t know that he is. Reed obviously has a better shot and seems like a smarter player. But scoot has that “it” factor where he can just sometimes get in a zone and do crazy, athletic things. If I was choosing between Reed or Scoot based on performance in the NBA, I’d choose Reed. But I really only saw Scoot play a handful of times in the regular season.

I’m hearing that Portland will be keeping Jru. I think Scoot is the odd man out.

I'd prefer Jrue, KD, and young core for a potential two year window, especially if we can use FVV and DFS expiring contracts.

Scoot just seems like Amen without the elite defense and worse offense.

Scoot played really well vs the Spurs in the playoffs.

Yah, I watched the playoffs and he definitely played well. I thought Reed had some good playoff moments too. But Reed plays a little scared and Scoot seems to play a little fearlessly, if not recklessly at times.

I keep seeing this but his numbers certainly don't reflect being elite from 3 already but what do I know.

Reed 3PT shooting percentages by West playoff teams:

    OKC: 32%
Spurs: 37% ( 1 game where he was at 57%) the average would drop down to 34% had he missed one more shot that game and shot 3/7 (42%)
    Lakers: 34%
    Twolves: 32%
    Nuggets: 38%
    Blazers: 36%

    Reed 3PT playoff percentages:

    Staggering 28%

    Why not both???

We could trade KD for Jrue (and maybe a pick or so). That would save us 9 mill. Then we could trade FVV and DFS for Jerami Grant (that'd save us another 4 mill).

That would give us the cap space we need to bring Tari back AND use the MLE for Smart.

Could come back next season starting Jrue, Amen, Eason, Jabari, Sengun - with a bench of Thornton, Reed, Smart, Grant, Adams , and probably added a couple of picks for our trouble.

Would they accept FVV and a second rounder? Would that work financially?
