Fair point. I didn't understand why AOC would talk to Fox in the first place. But I think I understand now.

My goodness, amigo, you just don't understand the basics of business. Rent stays low and the building that they are renting falls away in decay... because the owner cannot afford the rising costs of labor, maintenance, utilities, taxes, insurance, etc. New housing is not built because rent is low... and shortages arise... and then what happens to rent? It rises through the roof. What started out as a "caring plan" actually has the opposite effect of what was intended. Now NYC will be left with a set of buildings that have been underinvested in... (no profits to reinvest) and a shortage due to developers not having financial motivation to build new housing inventory.

The best cure for high rents is high rents. Because then supply is built (developers are motivated) and rents come down. Rent controls create scarcity and dilapidated buildings. NYC is in a very perilous position right now. I advise all reading this to get out of NYC while they can. It will get ugly.

Hilarious. This is what this dumbass was claiming earlier

Crime has plummeted under Mamdani and now you want to pretend you're a real estate expert. You're never right about anything in your life. You right wing losers who spend all day fear mongering are absolute turds

You're confused because you're going off the article headline instead of the actual content of the video?

What AOC said basically boils down to a few points from that short Fox interview.

She implied the CHIPS Act didn't help, and she's both right and wrong there. The CHIPS Act's goal was to tackle long-term domestic chip supply, which does help. But it didn't anticipate the shortage happening this fast due to AI. And even if it had, it probably couldn't have done much about that anyway.

She implied AI and AI data centers are the cause of the supply shortage (and price hikes). That's 100% correct. She said maybe Congress can do something about the supply (though the Fox piece doesn't push on or show what exactly that would be). And she said we need consumer protection and antitrust action.

It could have been a much better interview (maybe it was, and the video is just cut), but the reporting is terrible. Her proposal is pretty standard stuff, nothing controversial. Antitrust and consumer protections aren't new. "Do something about the supply" w.r.t AI soaking them all up could be a new idea, but the piece doesn't get into that at all.

So, as I originally posted, Fox News and the NY Post incorrectly focused on and implied, probably intentionally, that she wants to break up Apple. That's fake, and it misses all of her points, even though those points were limited to begin with.

Same posters are losing their minds over this rent thing, the same people who were wrong every single time before.

First it was "everyone will leave NYC." Turned out 100% wrong.

Then it was "NYC crime will spike." Turned out 100% wrong.

Now it's "the housing market will collapse." That'll turn out 100% wrong too.

There's plenty more that could be said, but you guys are wrong constantly because you go off the rails on pure reaction instead of actually reading what happened.

The "rent freeze" is basically the board exercising its existing power to set the maximum amount a landlord can raise rent at lease renewal at 0% for one specific category of housing: rent-stabilized units. That's roughly 1 million apartments, about 40% of the city's rental stock, mostly buildings built between 1947 and 1974 with six or more units, plus some newer buildings that took a tax break in exchange for stabilizing rent. It does NOT touch market-rate apartments, co-ops, condos, or most new construction. So no, this isn't "the gov froze rent across the city," it's a specific board adjusting a specific lever for a specific, pre-existing regulatory category that's existed since the 1960s/70s.

The 0% applies to leases renewing between October 2026 and September 2027. That's the "next cycle." After that, the board votes again next year, and the year after, every year, indefinitely. Maybe they set it at 0% again, maybe they allow 3%, maybe something else, nobody knows yet, including the people screaming about it now.

There's also a whole separate piece getting ignored: the goal of building 200,000 new homes over the next decade, plus rezoning and land use changes to speed up development timelines.

This isn't "freeze forever and nothing else." Maybe it works, maybe it fails, housing is a genuinely hard problem. But what this actually looks like is a temporary one-year freeze to deliver on a campaign promise, paired with separate policy aimed at increasing supply by cutting regulatory friction. (Funny how "reduce regulation to build more housing" sounds suspiciously like communism)

So, after you're 100% wrong yet again, let's see what's next.

Yes, I fell for fake news as I have seen many reports that AOC wanted to break up Apple. It was a coordinated effort, one that I have complained about multiple times like the 'There a good people on both sides'. I didn't realize it was Fox news interviewing her, not Fox News reporting on something AOC said.

This will undoubtedly lead to a financial crisis. Just like Biden's overspending led to soaring inflation. Taxes will be raised further and productive citizens will leave. Pension payments are being delayed in this budget. And the budget includes an $8 billion bailout from upstate taxpayers.

The doom loop will continue until the city is an unsafe place to be. Again I advise all NYC residents to leave while they still can. This will get very ugly.

The US deficit for 2026 is 200 billion dollars more than this same point last year so save us the garbage fear mongering. None of you low iq MAGATs care when yalls cult hero deficit spends and runs up the debt but want to obsess about it when a democrat does it.

MAGATs are the most disingenuous losers in the world

The saddest part is how Trump is selling off and privatizing public lands, golf courses, and places Americans used to be able to enjoy outdoors. Of course Trump doesn't give a damn about outdoors, recreation, and public spaces. I doubt the snake oil salesman has ever ridden on a bike trail, hiked, fished, camped, or appreciated the outdoors in his life. The guy you argue with is probably the same type. My guess is that he's a sociopath greedy b*stard like Trump, a dumbass, or just some sad troll cult minded followers. Who knows.

Take from Americans and give to those who can reap the profits off that land. Trump looks at everything with a way to profit, and doesn't give a damn about anything other than reaping in from the profits. He basically throws his middle finger up to those who aren't in his billionaire club. His Golden Age slogan is the biggest crock of sh*t since he came up with MAGA. The dude's the biggest con to ever be President, that's for sure.

Democratic socialists are starting to take away privileges from the citizens -- no air conditioning below 78 degrees. This is to avoid the electrical infrastructure from crumbling and causing blackouts. Good governments do not do this -- they plan ahead. But for those of us who think on a higher level -- the big takeaway here is the mindset. Mamdani thinks he controls the people. He can tell them what temperature their apartments should be. That's dangerous thinking. Real ones know that politicians work FOR the people, and not vice versa. That's Western values, and that's American values. Mamdani just doesn't adhere to American values.

My advice: Get out of NYC before things get ugly -- and they will get ugly under socialist rule. We don't have to guess -- we know from the lessons of history.

Democrat socialists have no vision, they are just managing the decline slowly, so the collapse is not as sudden. Get out of NYC while you still can. It will get very ugly.

Get out of NYC while you can. This group will absolutely ruin what the forefathers built. It's a highly predictable pattern that has occurred globally.

Who in their right mind would take advice from this guy? Unreal. He’s setting NYC on a path to total disaster — and he doesn’t know any better because he’s never had a job in the real world.

The funniest thing about his AC debate was Mamdani was simply following Trump admin own guidelines. It was Trump energy department which published the guidelines before Mamdani said anything

Again there's nobody dumber than a MAGAT @El_Conquistador so I wouldn't expect yall to critically think

As I've been saying for years now there's literally nobody dumber lower iq than a MAGAT
