Can't afford Wallace and Melton only declined his option to open up room for LeBron, he's going to re-sign after everything is done for the minimum. Rockets could poach Melton but it would take the full tpe, which i think they've already promised to Smart
I imagine that my problem is the same that the rest of the NBA has. To me Wallace has not played a ton because they are so stacked and I just don’t know the talent level. But I would definitely take a pretty significant flyer on him investment wise increase his role and then see if it could be a franchise type guy. I remember that he is a great defensive player, but can somebody else remind me if he would fit with Thompson?
If Smart is healthy, I’d replace him with like DFS. But not interested in adding him to this unchanged roster. Need more on ball playmakers. Smart isn’t the best shooter but he can get hot.
I liked Wallace in the draft and I think he would be a great pickup. But the tweet says multiple first round picks which is a joke. How much does he think he can make and how much would we pay him? $15 mil per?
I've always liked Cason, but not "multiple first round picks" much, unless they're like heavily protected Rockets picks or something. He's a great defensive player and he doesn't have any glaring problems on offense that make him hard to fit onto a roster, but come on, he's a triple-single guy. He's never scored 9 points per game, never grabbed 4 rebounds, never dished 3 assists. His offensive impact has been low, and there's probably more in there on a team with fewer creators, but even if he doubles his scoring volume and assists, he's still just a Jrue Holiday type. If we could get him for one FRP plus salary filler I'd do it in a minute.
OKC has more players than playing time. I can see them moving players and maybe FRPs (they have a ton of these too), either as a salary dump or a 2-for-1 consolidation deal. Wallace is a great defensive player and an average offense player (0.351 on 3.7 3pt a/g). His assist to turnover is solid, but his 2.6 APG is a little light for a NBA 1 (assuming the Rockets want Wallace as 1 or why else make the trade). It is an open question if Wallace can lead a team into the playoffs as a "Big 2" or "Big 3". He is a solid player in a playoff team rotation. Is that worth multiple FRPs? Not in my book. I am also wary of a Pressi Stone trade. The Rockets will get fleeced.
Of course, it depends a lot on what they get in return, but I think trading Cason Wallace would be a big fumble by Sam Presti. Should have let Dort walk instead.
Guys, if there was a better option that our FO was capable of getting, we'd be doing that. It has been determined that Marcus Smart is the best option. We will not forget Smart, you will need to forget everyone else.
