The definition of average at best.
We can win with it, but not because of it

All he needs. All the team needs. An average CJ and we win the Super Bowl

    Absolutely.
If we get that then I’m good.
Just don’t want to pay top 5 money for top 16 play

How much does one have to pay an average CJ yearly?

The goal for me would be 55(55 is Trevor Lawrence, CJ is better than Trevor Lawrence). He will prob make more due to nature of the contract landscape.

I’d pay him now.. this is the cheapest you will get him. If he’s worse this year you let him go, if he’s better, he’s priced us out and will go to FA.

the naysayers are so focused on the last 2 games. Maybe he’s not elite, or Mahomes, but this team is built to win now, not waiting on some qb that you hope will be great but even the best qb in the next 2 drafts will be 2+ years before they are actually good. And even then, if CJ is a bust after his killer rookie year, then who’s to say anybody we would get would be good the following year.
CJ and this team has gone to the playoffs and won a game 3 straight years. The amount of qbs that have not done that and are making over 50 mil is staggering. Literally any number below 60 id take it right now.

that’s not because im some blind CJ fan. It’s what the market is. It would be dumb to watch him do the extract same thing, win one more game and suddenly we are paying north of 60. And starting this team over with Manning or some other top ranked qb will not get you farther than CJ did. Pin this if you wanna throw it in my face later.

That's crazy cash for an average CJ.

QBs don't grow on trees and you have kind of got to dance with the one you took to the prom.

Such a risky edge the Texans will have to walk during the negotiations.
Can they kick the can down the road and exercise the franchise tag on him next off season while they work it out.

I would like to see what we have this season then figure it out.
Dude is one more hard concussion away from a potentially bad situation on and off the field

I don’t think CJ is better than Lawrence.

You give CJ the number of 55, say it’s good until the season starts, if nothing happens then you reconvene at the end of the season

I respect the opinion, just disagree. CJ gets dragged for 2 games, yes they were historically bad games and rightfully so prob cost him an extension this offseason and the Texans a possible Super Bowl appearance.

Trevor has had maybe 17 games of good QB play with a ton of mediocre to bad play in his career, and has been pretty much just as terrible in the playoffs as CJ(re: 4 INTs in one half). And while 55 is a high number, it’s more based on contracts with the position more than anything.

I could let 2 playoff games go if he wasn’t so pedestrian the past two seasons.
Quite literally, he had 3-4 total good games last year. None against quality defenses.

Lawrence while not great, is just a much higher upside guy in terms of physical talent. He was also much better last season, maybe it’s due to coaching but I wouldn’t choose CJ over TLaw moving forward-at this point.

I don’t want Lawrence at 55 mil either btw
