None of us should support this dogshit product. I paid zero dollars towards anything team related and will continue to do so
Rockets ownership/front office/coach: Spoiler Owner’s son cosplaying as GM Guy with GM title is worthless Spoiler: Rafael Stone And the HC is tarded.
There’s no denying Smart’s value to a team as a tone-setter, dogged defender & leader, but if you don’t think the #WexlerResearchTeam immediately looked up his shooting data - then you don’t know me. Smart is dead last among active players at 38.9% FG and his 3pt FG% is also dead last at 32.4%. (min. 3000 FGA, 1000 3ptFGA) FYI - in 2026 playoffs after Smart surprisingly shot 46.4%FG/44.8% 3ptFG & .580 eFG% vs #Rockets, he shot vs Thunder 30.2% FG/19.0% 3ptFG & 34.9 eFG% Spoiler Smart was 174th last season among 379 NBA players who played at least 500 minutes during the regular season. The only players on the Rockets with a lower ranking were Okogie, Holiday, and DFS. Adams was lower, but only because of his season-ending injury.
There's something about the board that gets people steaming mad when any boring meh vet is signed, even if there is very little opportunity cost - people here have been complaining off and on about the Rod Strickland signing for over 20 years. As if Rod Strickland signing in January 2005 and being waived in February 2005 had any impact on....anything?
It is "whatever" - some of these older players even end up contributing. The only real problem I have is when they take time away from younger players -- your GM or HC cannot in one breath talk about how important a #3 pick like Reed Sheppard is, and then try and sign a guy that will play 30 minutes a night and take away time from Sheppard. Either you think Sheppard is good or you do not.....
According to HNI 10. Kevin Durant 43. Amen Thompson 47. Alperen Sengun 98. Jabari Smith Jr 101. Reed Sheppard 178. Tari Eason 184. Steven Adams 220. Josh Okogie 324. Aaron Holiday 347. Dorian Finney-Smith 203. Ja Morant 205. Marcus Smart
I don't know, I kinda feel ok with the signing (f we do it). As a vet with defensive chops, I think he could come in and help Amen with his D. When we dont have a legit paint protector it would be good to have a G that can defend the point of attack well. I don't think he should be playing 30 mins a game, but use him when we playing teams with guards that are beating us. I don't think it would cost much to get him and it's time to shore up the bench better than it is. Im not making a big fuss about this potential move. They BETTER bring in a shooter or two this offseason!
To make room for Rod Strickland, the Rockets waived Rookie PG Brandin Knight (3 career minutes in the NBA)
Didn't Stone do just that last year? He had a lot to say publicly about Reed stepping up and playing a consistent role, but people still criticized him for not signing another veteran guard. So if Stone signs another guard he shows no faith in Reed, but if he doesn't he's left us unprepared for an injury. I was totally down to run with just Reed and Amen last year. It didn't work out, but I much preferred it over bringing in a vet like Westbrook or something. Right now, we need another veteran guard much more than we did at the same point last summer. FVV was healthy last June, this year he's coming off a major surgery. He might be traded before the season even starts. I personally don't think he lasts the whole year on this roster. We don't know how much Smart would be signed for, what role he would play, or how many minutes he would get. If he's injury insurance like Clint I'm down for it. If he's going to be relied on for big minutes that's probably a mistake.
As a PG, he had a 98th percentile +/- last season... It was similar as a point in Memphis. This could be the analytics team reaching as much as Udoka.
I am not talking about Rod - I had no issue signing him..... I loved Rod Strickland.... I am talking about Smart getting minutes from Sheppard. If the Rockets want to give roster spots to the Jeff Green's of the world, who cares.
The Rockets right now have FVV, Sheppard, Thompson and Thornton all looking at minutes running the point. Last season the Rockets have FVV and an unproven Sheppard -- and then decided to go after Capela and DFS. As for Smart - I don't have anything against Smart, he is a competent guard. I just don't see how FVV and Smart don't take away minutes from Reed... and if the Rockets have concluded Reed is a bust, then they need to move on.
