If FVV is a shell of his former self and plays no btb etc, then Smart could be our starting PG for much of the season. UGH. That's got to be what Udoka wants. It's a chance for us to see AGAIN that FVV was probably pretty important to our team two years ago. It's like when Dillon was traded people were so happy and then we found out losing him was a big negative. I hope it's not the same with FVV. Smart gives us a third starter (potentially) who can't shoot 3's. We're going to run with Smart, Amen, KD, Jabari, Sengun (if Fred is limiteD)? Two 3 point shooters? That should work really well.
He is a good defender, but another guy who can't consistently shoot, once again, we have a FO that thinks you can win with Rebounding and defense. You can not. DD
After the disaster last season the Rockets decide to once again poach a Laker player that’s old and injury prone who can’t shoot. Meanwhile there are reports that teams like the Spurs and Timberwolves are interested in Rui from the Lakers, someone younger and who was shooting lights out from the 3 point line this past season. The difference in organizations is always laughable. The Rockets would rather play 90s basketball instead of today’s game. The clap, clap play harder, can’t shoot isn’t going to win you anything. And then get older while all those old heads were sitting at home watching the playoffs.
The Boston Celtics won a championship after they traded Marcus Smart and fired Ime thus changing their entire philosophy on how they wanted to play.
Macus Smart will be the biggest signing Stone did this summer. Stay tuned. Stone is good at signing scrubs.
with the way the NBA is moving this off season, we might as well punt the season again, wait it out build thought the draft.
As much as I would rather lean into a better shooting option... our team has a rather low bbiq and someone like Smart could help... I'd be interested if he were on the cheap and we really dont expect FVV to be able to contribute or he's earmarked to be traded as an expiring...
[Haynes] Los Angeles Lakers guard Marcus Smart is declining his $5.4M player option to become an unrestricted free agent, league sources tell me.
Maybe Marcus Smart can teach Reed how to be tough. Or he will have reed crying after practice from being abused every time down
I'll admit if I'm wrong but I feel like Mark Stein leaking this all out so early; before we're actually legally allowed to negotiate with Marcus Smart is a sign that this won't happen. I'm starting to fall into the "most rumors are just posturing" camp.
With all due respect to his son, Rick Brunson may be the worst (or at least most boring) player I’ve ever seen get regular rotation minutes on the Rockets. It was infuriating. Not Rick’s fault, but JVG would rather run out a familiar corpse than an unproven youngster who could actually move. Granted, the Rockets were terrible that year, but that’s all the more reason not to waste money and minutes on aging vets.
