Not to be reactionary, but for me this would further cement our need to take a step back and retool.

Why would Kawhi to the Mavs necessitate that?

Because I already want it and am looking for ample evidence to back up my desire.

Getting bullied by more than 1 team in the division, imo, warrants that. Bullied short term with a better long term outlook.

Just can't want him with the injury history. Fantastic player but can't do it. If it is FVV/Capela/DFS and a first rounder then OK I guess.

Why would a sports team spend so much money and time on a suit model?

I am willing to take a chance at him for a low cost such as Sengun for Kawhi plus a first round pick.

For me, trading for Kawhi would probably be like when Ron Artest was on the Rockets.

There are some players I just cannot cheer for under any circumstances. Ron Artest was one, but he didn't make me dislike the team. Kawhi? I'd have to wait and see.

Since they lost to the Lakers, I've felt totally numb about the Rockets.

As much as I hate the thought this is where I am currently at if all it costs is 2028 1st. I doubt that is enough. It fits my model of discounted stars to keep the picks for the future. I think their other target is Kyrie. All bad options. We will most likely not use the 2028 1st in a player so it makes sense to trade for the right value. If you resign Tari and Amen then you have a couple of contracts and some flexibility to acquire a PG in Capela and Adams. FVV, DFS and Davison is enough to make the contracts work for Kawhi. I would save Capela for something else and keep Adams. Outside of vet mins I think the only other asset we have is the TPMLE.

Nothing will change for the Rockets imo. The old players will be back.

I think it’s likely as well, though the incorrect move.

The Iko article of them listening to offers where they weren’t before is at least some sort of semblance of hope that there may be a bigger change before the season starts.

The Rockets had their chance at getting Kawhi with the 14th pick in the 2011 NBA draft. It's too late in his career to try and benefit off his talent now. He's paid too much and he's too injury prone, not to mention just a strange dude. . . and corrupt.

Believe it or not, I have no interested in root for a player who should honestly be banned from the league for blatant cap circumvention.

I don’t think Kawhi will approve a trade to the Rockets and their owner is very fond of Kawhi. If all it would take is our trash and 1 frp, I would do it under the caveat that we would not extend him. I would rather it be a pick after 29, because I think the 28 pick would restrict some of the asset flexibility we have with the 27 and 29 picks (only would restrict if we wanted to use 2 from 1 year in a trade). If we are dead set on keeping Durant and we sign Kawhi, I guess that pushes Jabari to the bench. Reed or Smart?, Amen, Kawhi, Durant, Sengun and a bench of Smart or Reed, Jabari, Adams. What are the odds that everybody stays healthy, 10%?

It was to give hope to fans, not anything factual. Iko is Stone’s propagandist.
