I really really really try to support Joe, give him credit when due, "he's our guy", when its bad it's not all his fault but FFS the simpliest managerial deciscions he somehow completely wiffs and DRAINS all the ****ing equity right out of his account.
Joe has consistently done this. Why TF pinch hit a better hitter when Bryce is an option is beyond me.
He’s an idiot no doubt but I will give him credit by saying his teams haven’t quit on him. I do think as fans we overrate the impact managers have on a team as well.
Crazy how terrible Joe managed his pinch hitters this game. I guess it just goes to show how little impact a manager really has
Twice at most, and we need to keep him stretched out to be a bulk innings guy later. You're juggling with knives 3rd time through the order
Last time I looked a study showed somewhere between 9 to 13 wins/losses impacted over a 162 game span
Was watching MLB network yesterday and they had Joey Votto on there. Guy has an incredible mind for the game and was ahead of his time with analytics. He privately hired a guy that gave him data on the umpires zones and catcher framing capabilities to overlay over each other to create that nights strike zone. Anyhow, point being, they asked him his take on Mendoza getting fired and his response was essentially this…he didn’t think managers had much impact.
