Smart is more attitude than talent. His age, injuries are concerning. He and Ime were ‘one mind’ on the parquet floor. SnTs with hard cap options, ouch. However, if a deal were agreed and signed later with Smart & Rui / CC and the return of DFS (after Time Lord was acquired) would work for me even if the needle would not move far for either team. Just realigning to max whatever they all might have at this stage of their (careening) careers.
btw this isn't speculation, it's a done deal. this is exactly how the DFS signing was presented. in similar wording. they're going to present this as a veteran and mentor for Bruce Thornton which in theory makes sense cause they're pretty similar in size and play style. I wouldn't be mad at this signing if he wasn't injury prone and fit an actual need.
This works if 1.He’s taking a TP-MLE (6.3 mill per up to 3 years) 2. Lakers/other teams are willing to take one of our players (presumably one of DFS, Clint, perhaps Fred/Adams) into their space or exception, allowing us to offer Smart more. 3. We let Eason walk, allowing us to offer Smart more Smart has only shot 35% from 3 or higher once in his career, we have Fred/Reed/Thornton, we might be able to keep Okogie for cheap. Sure I'd take him on the TP-MLE to be a backup SG/SF, but this fit isn't great. Short of the FO thinking Fred is cooked, and us dumping him, I don't love the fit if the cost to acquire him requires a sacrifice.
not really sure. the fact it's damn near confirmed makes me think he's going to make a bit more than what he made this year(5.3M). You don't have plans to opt out days before free agency and have a team in mind to accept a contract that is the same range of what you played for, especially when you outplayed that contract.
basically means Tari is gone or sign a trade lol. I can see stone just handing him over to the lakers for cheap. but then I’m not sure if you can do sign and trade with someone who’s not signed there?
yea that would work but that's unlikely. Tari would have to agree to a contract which is going to be a lot higher than Marcus' so the Lakers would have to add additional contract like Vanderbilt. it would be a horrendous trade for us which sounds about par for Stone and Ime.

I’m not even that high on Eason and think this is a dumb idea to lose a younger player who hasn’t reached his prime for an older injury prone player on his last leg who also can’t shoot.
I remember during the Reed Sheppard draft that while I wanted Reed, I thought Castle might be a better pick because Ime would actually play him. And most fans were disagreeing with me because we had Amen. I hope Ime's love for Josh Okogie/DFS, and this offseason love for Marcus Smart, help some of the younger fans who hasnt watched the NBA a long timr learn a lesson on how coaches think.
Smart for Capela works on the ESPN trade machine. That’s okay with me. It doesn’t mean that I’m keen for it.
