He's not a bad player honestly and he's a high IQ veteran and it rarely never hurts to have those except.... We already have major spacing issues...like monumental spacing issues... if he plays decent rotation minutes it means we're always going to have like two bad shooters on the floor at all times unless Amen or Sengun magically become three point shooters.

It would be for more than the vet minimum. ...which is unacceptable. This would need to be done in conjunction with other moves. Like moving FVV and his expiring... We need to commit to getting younger. Smart FVV Reed Thornton Midgets... And, yeah...we need more shooting. So, are they going to do the right thing... or rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic? With Ime having power, and our Lawyer "YES MAN" GM.... I fear it's the latter.
Not a fan of Smart at this point. He's more a 7-8th man on a team that has a star. That said, he will not cost the Rockets a future asset. He will not cause the Rockets pick to get worse. Him not being a Sun makes the chances of the Suns being worse helps the Rockets. While I don't see him being a big help, the we are not contenders crowd should not be pro/against this type of move as it doesn't affect the years they care about. That said, I fully expect the Rockets will have a legal roster this season, and the whining to continue every time the Rockets are connected to a player that preserves future draft capital to fill out the roster.
Expiring Contracts: Tari Eason Jeff Green JaeSean Tate Aaron Holiday Josh Okogie Marcus Smart would just a replacement for one of these guys. Calm down everyone. Smart will definitely not be a full time starter on this team.

A. This is probably coming from Smart’s agent, to goose his free agent market. B. If the Rockets actually had interest, it would mean FVV is gone and Smart signed as a depth free agent. There are no money mechanisms by which the Rockets could sign Smart otherwise.
I guess it’s possible that FVV really is stupid enough to bet on himself and decline his option, but, of course I jest.
