Fell to my knees at the hotel breakfast reading this. Let this be the last year

I’ll be on suicide watch when I get that FVV 3 for 45mil contract extension notification

Too nice of an expiring to let him walk after a year as well. Gotta trade him I think

It’s better to assume he’s not getting traded, than to get your hopes up and then be disappointed when he’s not traded

    Friday love on offer.

FWIW - this news surprised me. I did anticipate 3/45 or similar.

FWIW II - I am unsure how to receive this. Is he now a likely summer trade candidate?

As an expiring he gives you options but I wouldn't get my hopes up. We've had similar scenarios in the past and did nothing.

This is how TWolves fans feel about Conley. Ready for both sides to move on. And it not even FVv fault , it’s moreso I’m annoyed at The Rocket and Ime because they use FVv as a crutch too strongly.

There’s so many options around the league and we jsut remain blind to them. I wasn't even a big Morey fan but I sorely miss this guy. Heck I even miss Dawson at this point.

this current rockets org just don’t know how to build

How fast can you trade a player once he opts into his player option???

I would assume it’s on the same level of a sign & trade right?

In the NBA nowadays, there are essentially zero veteran starter level players who play out the year with one year left, after being unable to come to an extension/new contract agreement. Player/team/agency do not accept lame duck status.

Only exceptions are when a team is angling for cap space or the player is contractually unextendable. Neither apply here.

Make no mistake, FVV and the Rockets not coming to an agreement means the relationship is O V E R. If he opts in he will be traded, if he opts out he's walking somewhere else.

I’m perfectly fine with him playing out his last $25 mil season and moving on. He’s not gonna have trade value anyway until he proves he can still play at an nba level. I’m preparing myself for at least half a season of DFS-like production. But I certainly hope his expiring salary can be included in a trade for positive value.

Aside from trade optionality, there are basically three "uncertainty" factors driving this:

1.) Not knowing how Fred looks, post-injury. They say all indications are positive and no one is anticipating anything close to a 2025-26 DFS situation, but you can never entirely know until the player ramps up. Same applies with Steven, of course.

2.) Not knowing how good Reed will be in 2026-27. How ready is he to truly be the guy? Does he take steps forward with regards to defense and his handle? This will affect both the short-term minutes of Reed/Fred and potentially the long-term cap number for Reed, since he'll be extension eligible after this season.

3.) Not knowing what Tari's next contract is. This is obviously the one variable that theoretically could change at any time, though it doesn't sound like anything is that close. If they had clarity on what Tari's future AAV is, it would be easier to map out the future payrolls and what they could potentially give Fred while staying below the key inflection points (i.e. aprons). As it stands, they'd be guessing.

I do think it's fair to say that projecting out the next few years, obviously Reed/Tari (especially Reed) are still on the upswing of their careers and Fred is likely to be declining. So the younger guys are going to get prioritized, in terms of sorting out their financial numbers first.

I don’t understand why extending a guy who will be 33 this December coming off both a torn ACL and meniscus would even be a question.

The idea was that you'd be lowering this season's salary considerably, thereby giving you more financial room to improve the rest of the roster.

But yes, the risk factor for those additional years and uncertainty regarding his health is a big part of why I'm pretty sure it won't happen.
