I’d do all those in a heartbeat. It doesn’t change our chances of winning a World Series in 28, 29, or 30 one bit imo, but it seriously increases our odds this year.
I wonder if the rumors of Houston being interested in Jo Adell are because they intend to pair him with LaMonte Wade in LF to hopefully get legit elite middle of the order production out of that position. Then you pair Meyers with either Trammell or Loperfido in CF and all of a sudden you’ve got a pretty salty lineup. Against RHP (career split wRC+): SS Pena 102 DH Alvarez 165 3B Paredes 115 2B Altuve 121 LF Wade 113 1B Walker 110 CF Trammell 97 (Loperfido 103) C Diaz 110 RF Smith 81 Bench: Allen 41, Vazquez 75, Meyers 85, Adell 83 Against LHP: SS Pena 129 DH Alvarez 166 2B Altuve 146 3B Paredes 129 1B Walker 110 LF Adell 109 RF Smith 111 CF Meyers 101 C Diaz 97 Bench: Allen 87, Vazquez 84, Trammell 37 (Loperfido 56), Wade 58
Said the other day in theory this makes sense. That said, Adell is in the prime of his career and he’s a former #10 overall pick that hit 37 homers last season. I don’t know the guy, but my guess is his ego isn’t going to allow himself to accept the role as the short end of the platoon, especially considering he’s not a FA this offseason. Obviously you could trade for him and just tell him tough sh*t but not sure that’s worth the headache. Again, I know nothing about him though so maybe he’s a team player and just wants to win.
Technically his career split against RHP is better than cam Smiths so he could be played most days if it was going to be that big of an issue.
Probably a fair trade from an outsiders perspective but personally I’m too high on Pecko and Wade to like that deal. If Larnach could handle CF I’d be ok with it but in LF I just don’t think Larnach is that much better than a combo of Wade and somebody who can hit LHP.
I can't see giving up some of the few prospects we have to address the catcher position Yainer get a lot of hate around here and I understand that But before his injury he had shaken off a very poor start to the season by going 13 for his last 42 with 4 Doubles and a HR Since he came back he is 6-21 with a Double and a HR So over his last 63 at bats he is hitting .301 with a 809 OPS It's certainly not out of the question we get better production out of him the rest of the way than we would with Jeffers, and Vasquez is much better playing 2 days a week than he is as the starter We need a legit OF bat, not a platoon guy or a small upgrade, we need a legit 770+ OPS guy out there to really change our offense And could certainly use one more reliable bullpen arm
Baltimore would have to play really poor over the next month to be sellers, they are only a game behind us right now. If they do become sellers, I like Rogers. The problem is there is no way they are selling right now and Rogers has been really good over his last 4 starts. If he still has an ERA over or near 5 at the deadline then a package like you have here might get him. But if he continues to pitch well, after his year last year, that would be greatly over bid by other teams Moniak would be good as a platoon guy, but he is awful against LHP and i'm not sure Espada would understand that and use him well. The other problem is our bench is already so weak it would be tough to add a guy there who would be strictly a platoon bat I think there is a better chance we dangle Alvarez (Kevin, not Yordan), Neyens, Frey and shoot to bring in a legit bat. Dana is playing for his job right now, he needs to bring in a game changer. Plus, Crane isn't going to go into a rebuild whether we think he should or not, and as good as those prospects may be one day, none of them are likely to ever play on an Astros team with Yordan, Altuve or Pena on it, and only when those guys are gone would Crane possibly allow whoever the GM is to go into a rebuild
Having Nick Allen as the ONLY bench guy who can play the infield isn't good though, cause right or wrong, guys are going to get days off. Nick Allen would be playing a lot. If they went that route they would definitely need to upgrade the utility infield spot.
It’s hard to think of a guy who will be available who would warrant giving up Kevin Alvarez and Xavier Neyens. Certainly not somebody like Wilyer Abreu or Jung Hoo Lee; even though those are good players, they just don’t have the kind of surplus value to warrant giving up what essentially amounts to the entirety of elite talent in the farm system. Maybe Buxton or Marte if their teams pay all the money owed. Maybe Mike Trout if he wants out and the Angels eat 2/3 of what he’s owed.
Nah, Delgado is the only backup infielder on the roster now. They can get by with just one. Wade can also play 1B. If you roster Loperfido instead of Trammell he has experience at 2B and 1B. In a real emergency Cam Smith would be fine at 3B for a game.
I don’t disagree with you but that OF bat might not exist on the market. Snake laid out all the players on teams that are definitely or might be selling in a recent post. There weren’t any of those unless you believe Moniak is a legit .770 OPS hitter even while not playing half his games at Coors. You’re right though I wouldn’t spend the capital on a catcher when Yainer has at least shown the ability to hit in the past. I’d rather have a starter than an arm in a pen but either way one or the other needs to be added in addition to an OF.
If Joe Ryan is coming along with Buxton you can definitely justify it. Buxton is just such a risk though.
Buxton is only getting 15 million annually. I don't see them eating any of that money. He has surplus value. Well at least this year he does.
Yes he has surplus value but to me if Houston is going to give up both Alvarez and Neyens then the Twins would need to eat all the money; even then I wouldn’t like the deal for the Astros.
Buxton likely will produce enough surplus value to cover both. The Astros being short on prospects doesn't mean the Twins would pay down Buxton.
