The idea that whether an 18 year-old player is paid for via salary vs paid via NIL vs paid via agent 'advances' vs simply playing full time 'for free' determines how far along a player should be or how we should view future development potential is so incredibly stupid.

    Probably not.

I get expecting Amen to become a good shooter is probably not a good bet, though not impossible. That said, the OTE is pro ball is sematics and is just argumentative.

Its why KD and Sengun need to be traded. Amen needs to be looked at as a 6-7 Giannis not a bad spacer for two terrible one way players. Jabari and Reed fit with him. KD and Sengun do not.

That's fair .... but what escapes me is the fact that people continuously push the idea of growth when little to no signs of that have been shown or in this case, after regression.

Whether people like it or not, OTE was a professional league with professional coaches, many of them with roots in the NBA and prior to that the twins were literally groomed from the womb to play basketball - yet their shooting was THAT BAD and has remained such thru 3 full seasons of NBA coaching.

At some point, you just have to read the tea leaves for what they are and admit that you can't fix what's broken. It's not like they started playing basketball the day they were drafted ....

Do any of you remember those video's of Amen and Ausar working with some shooting whisperer and how pathetic they looked in them? Like WTF was that ?!
You guys have really been training in the sport since you were 7, being home schooled so you could "concentrate on basketball." ....
This ain't an episode of the 6 million dollar man where "we can fix him", "we can make him better!"

If his shooting was to be fixed, it would be fixed by now.
If That Guy is our best chance for a superstar, we're doomed.

Then half of the NCAA is pro. Such a bogus argument.

Dumbest discussion ever re “yrs as a professional”. Almost as dumb as believing Kelly Iko’s reporting aren’t just intentional leaks from the rockets org.

    Amen's FT improved

Amen's was a better passer than Alpi in the playoffs and took care of the ball better

Amen's shooting was better than Alpi in the playoffs

there's a reason Amen played 44 minutes in the playoffs as opposed to Alpi 37 minutes

and Amen having the best Net Rating on the team for the Playoffs

you keep on crying about Amen's 2 years in the OTE
while your boy Alpi who spent 3 years in the Turkish League and on his 5th year as a Rocket was just sonned by Ayton in the playfoffs

Excuses. Amen Thompson isn't the reason Sengun couldn't make free throws, hit layups or defend. Most of the spacing issues were because of Sengun lol. Ayton outclassed & embarrassed him. Ayton sucks too

I guess that is true now, but it wasn't before.

If you are paid to play basketball you are a pro, it is your job.

yep its Amen's fault that he plays a full 7 minutes a game more than Alpi in the playoffs

and funny people complainign about Amen's shooting when he actually shot better than Alpi

You could definitely make that argument now that they make NIL money .... it may as well be a pro league.

How long do you think we need to wait to see some real improvement - and make no mistake, we didn't see that this year despite multiple people making statements like "I thought ...." or "I saw ...." They were looking through Rockets Red colored glasses ... and the Mustard got on the lenses.
The numbers prove otherwise - he shot worse this season than last.

Do we wait one more year and pay him north of $40million a year as some have suggested? At 30something percent outside of 3 feet an Apli Special contract is an overpay.

Do we wait 3 more years .... like with Jalen "he's only 23" .... on and on until we realize the contract was a mistake?

Forget about how many years they have been pro's or not - The Twins have literally been trained to be basketball players since they were 7 years old and this is the best that they have to offer? .... Let's wait one more year.

You guy's will eventually come around .... Just like most eventually turned on Jalen Green.

That's the only thing that improved (FT%) and is largely irrelevant when everything else and I mean that literally - went south. That includes defense and shooting from "everywhere outside of 3 feet".

Someone up thread said they'd take the over on 34% from 3 for Amen ..... based on what?! You got mustard in your eye ...

My boy Alpi? Really? When I've said trade them both? Neither are gonna lead us where wee want to go?
You can make it an argument between Amen and Sengun if you want ..... But if you get right down to it, they are both very flawed and Alpi has his own set of problems to deal with - particularly as a defender. Teams will perpetually seek him out and target him, especially in the playoffs and then there's the fact that he can't shoot outside of what, maybe 6, maybe 8 feet and gets stonewalled by bigger defenders? Injury replacement Allstar! yeah team!

Trade them both for another bite at the star apple.

Sounds like no contract renegotiation to me. Probably going to be the first domino to fall for the offseason strategy

They always received compensation in the form of scholarships, free tuition, room and board, meals, training, medical support, and cost-of-attendance stipends. The difference now is that NIL and revenue-sharing have made some of the money more open and formalized. Before that, plenty of players were still getting paid, just under the table.

Does he plan on accepting the PO and not a long term contract? Pretty bold for a 33 year old PG coming off of an ACL tear who is regressing.
