Anyone who says "trump turned him in" you know automatically they have brain worms. Trump only went to the police department 14 months after Jeffrey Epstein was being publicly investigated Trump did not go to the police department before the police department opened up a case on him. All throughout the 90s when they were best friends flying on private planes over 14 times not a single time did Trump think about turning them in at the height of his crimes only after when he was under investigation.

    Braindead individuals

a Dem President will have to issue pardons immediately for everybody except the shooter who will need to have his sentence lowered dramatically

actual murderers don’t even get that much time

I don’t think a single Jan 6er got more than 20 years, and that was for the Proud Boy ring leaders…these people were assaulting and beating the hell out of multiple cops along with trashing the place and taking sh*ts/smearing feces on the wall

these people are getting 50 years for what is essentially vandalism and 30 years for transporting some zines

I did some AI sleuthing because I'm surprised at the harshness. This was a federal trial, so there would be a 12 person jury with a unanimous guilty verdict. But, the jury doesn't do sentencing. That is done by the judge. 9 people were sentenced together, so the work was split between 2 district judges.

The junior judge is Mark Pittman. He was appointed by Trump in 2019.

The senior judge is Reed O'Connor. He was appointed by GWB and has a reputation as a go-to venue for politically charged cases. When lawyers are venue shopping, they will often go to his district hoping to draw him. He ruled the ACA unconstitutional before being overturned, for example. There was no venue shopping in this case because the dumbasses went and committed crimes in his district. But, he probably wasn't well-disposed toward ICE protesters.

The sentences are long because they are lined up consecutively and there were many charges on which they were convicted. And, perhaps most importantly, the jury returned a guilty verdict on the terrorism charge which is serious unto itself and also enables other charges like material support for terrorism. That's not on the judge; the jury found that way. Also, it would be comic if it wasn't tragic, but the fireworks are considered explosives, and using explosives to commit other felonies and in a terror attack just multiplies the severity.

In short, these guys are effed. They were looking to do bad things but probably didn't know how well-equipped prosecutors were to throw the book at them. And they drew a district that was going to be inclined to be severe. And federal sentencing guidelines are severe regardless after years of tough-on-crime legislation plus our previous freakout over Islamist terrorism. And yet, understanding all that, you look at the outcome and can see the result is not aligned with the severity of the crime. It's just a notch down from what Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols got for the OKC bombing. It looks more like an authoritarian government sending a message that its regime is not to be challenged or they will throw you down a dark hole forever. Those with 50+ year sentences will die in prison for doing a fireworks and vandalism stunt.

No he didn't. According to Trump's friend and supporter, the Sherrif, Trump merely told them he was glad Jeff Epstein was being investigated.

Trump himself has said and maintained that he was unaware of Epstein's crimes.

This whole thing is disgusting especially when you juxtapose it to Jan 6 defendants getting lighter sentences for much heavier crimes.

I assume they will all appeal the sentences. Sadly, young and idealistic is always prone to FAFO. SMH at the whole thing.

    No joke there.

Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), who represents a Northern Virginia district that was home to many of those who protected the Capitol on January 6th including Officers Sicknick, Smith, DeFreytag, and Fanone, issued the following statement today on President Donald Trump’s pardons and commutations for the perpetrators of the violent January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol:

“With these pardons and commutations Donald Trump embraced violence and lawlessness.

“Trump pardoned the people who beat and tazed my constituent, Officer Michael Fanone, who gave a brain injury to my constituent Officer Jeff Smith days before he died by suicide, and who attacked and sprayed my constituent, Officer Brian Sicknick, with bear spray hours before his death from two strokes. He pardoned hundreds of people who pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement, many of them with deadly weapons, and pardoned or commuted the sentences of over a dozen violent criminals convicted of seditious conspiracy.

“By pardoning those who carried out these heinous crimes, Donald Trump made our country less safe and betrayed the law enforcement heroes who protected the Capitol at great personal cost. No one who remains silent in this moment can ever credibly claim to ‘back the blue.’

Trump is the most disgusting hypocrite to ever hold office. Calling these guys his Patriots shows a special side of evil inside his warped brain.

The guilty verdicts aren't surprising. They were there to bring mayhem and brought an AR for good measure. The fact that they got 50+ years is pretty crazy, but I know someone that got 12 years in federal prison because they had an illegal gun and associated with drug dealers. Federal prosecutors have a 90 percent conviction rate.

Personally, I have issues with crimes being different based on motivation. I don't like hate crimes or terrorism charges in most cases. A crime is a crime regardless of motivation. A murder, rape or an assault isn't worse because of why you hate someone.

wonder what kind of jail time these guys are getting. 50+?

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/27/trump-assassination-plot-ufc-fight-tycen-proper

The plotters planned to stage a demonstration near the White House to distract law enforcement. As Trump and other officials cheered on the UFC’s gladiators of mixed martial arts, the plotters would bomb the event with drone-borne explosives, causing a panicked evacuation toward an area where waiting marksmen would pick off “high-value targets”. A “second wave” of attackers, according to court documents, would storm the White House.

It was to be, one of the alleged conspirators told others, “a ****ing bloodbath”.
