Of course, things would be different. I was arguing using your logic that things don't change such that the Nets finishing in the bottom 3 while tanking is relevant.

I will concede that the lottery balls would be different in an alternate reality. Granted, the Nets don't finish the season 10 and 42 if they didn't go from tanking to having tank even harder to fight their way into the Bottom 3. Odds are the Rockets end up with essentially the same pick they got in 25 and would have gotten the 7th to 10th pick this year in the alternate reality that the trade didn't happen.

The Tims literally traded him at a deficit lol They gave the Nets a higher pick to get rid of him lol I guess the Nets are play in contenders now which by the way now works in our favor lol

    Nets are in desperation mode….

That is two years in a row they failed getting the top picks in the draft, meanwhile having nearly the worst possible outcome.

Brooklyn fans aren’t going to sit idly by and make it comfortable to Nets Management while they take their time to rebuild.

Unfortunately that was the mentality under the Knicks previously. It wasn’t until they did things the right way and not throw money away that they built a team worthy to compete.

Yeah exactly my point is the Nets can get better if they have capspace and picks so everyone crying about the Nets trade is just wrong. If we didnt do the trade and Nets didnt have their pick they would have done something like this last year since they had more than 40M in capspace and 5 frps heading into the draft.

Its not that they are in desperation mode its that there is no point to tanking if they dont have their pick.

Nobody likes losing if there is no benefit to it and the Nets have capspace just sitting around after trading Mikael Bridges and Ben Simmons contract expired. The diff is they had their pick last year and now they dont.

There are little to no Brooklyn fans they all got swallowed by the Knicks.

Randle and MPJ front court doesn't seem particularly fearsome. Don't really see this move moving the needle.

THIS. I appreciate Randle as a player who has manage to stick around and have a longer NBA career than you would think based on those early Lakers years....but at his core, he is an inefficient player playing a brand of basketball that has largely been proven to be of less value in the modern NBA. He can get a bucket and was largely used as the Wolves go to scorer against 2nd string units but if you are relying on him to be your best or 2nd best player as the Nets are, you are probably squarely a bottom 4-10 range team because 'how' he gets those buckets is largely a loosing strategy unless you can be hyper efficient(like Giannis or maybe KD mid rangers).

I've been saying this for years at this point, but Julius Randle is basically the ceiling for Sengun if Alperen can't drastically improve his efficiency on twos. You can't be effective on a team as a high volume scorer in the NBA taking 15+ shots a game if they are mostly 2s unless you do it a very efficient rate. Sengun at 23 is basically the 24-26yr old Julius Randle with a few extra assists on the stat line. Those are players that can be in the NBA for a long time, but not as feature players on good teams.

I think the East will be deeper than the West this upcoming season. I don't think the Nets make the playoffs. They would have to abandon developing their young players to go all in on the playoffs. Teams ahead of the Nets in the East... Knicks, Celtics, Cleveland, Indiana, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Toronto, Detroit, Philadelphia... That is 11 teams. I think Washington is better as well. That puts the Nets as the 13th team in the East. The Nets have an uphill battle to make the playoffs.
Edit: Saw multiple posters including Clutch make the same argument... maybe I get some likes from the late arrivals...

Its not a bold claim if you know basketball. Sengun is 8 years younger than him and already has better numbers in a down year lol I always say Clutchfans loves to underrate Sengun and overrate Jabari Smith Jr. If you listen to this board Sengun is the worst defender in the league then you look at his numbers and its like not even close lol Yet Jabari is seen as a knock down shooter and big time defender here and he's neither. It needs to be studied.

There is a video of Jaden McDaniel's being told about the trade by a fan, he is on vacation in Japan, he and the woman he is with are trying very hard to not smile ear to ear and just say damn thats crazy. Randle is not liked, he is an expensive piece for a bad team. Think Victor Oladipo , John Wall on Rockets, tank commanders.

Your proof is he has better numbers and is better than Jabari? That’s what passes as “knowing basketball” in your parts? Hard pass on that as proof of anything.

The NBA road is lined with players with good numbers who never really made basketball teams markedly better. Perhaps Sengun fans will remember a guy named Donatas Sabonis. That guy sure has a strikingly similar profile to Alpi and doesn’t have many wins to show for it. It’s almost like I’m not really talking about stats at all but actually elevating a team. If you can’t see your way out of the box score, then perhaps you don’t know basketball as well as you thought.

Not sure what any of this post means and why I'm automatically called a sengun fan? Are you not? Maybe its your bias posting.
