Even if we got the #1 pick in 2027 there’s a good chance it’s not a better player than the #6 pick in 2026. That’s the sad truth, and why trading out of this draft was a big mistake.

On this site you get banned if you don’t post threads that are kool-aid drinking lovefests. I got banned for posting thought provoking threads that are some of the longest in recent site history (over 100 pages). Unfortunately, I was called out for being critical of Silas and Stone and that was it for me. Anywhere else your post would be respected on a historic draft day where we have no pick because our lawyer gave it away. On this site you will likely have your posting privileges removed.

The truth is that there is a chance the Rockets would have been better off not making that second trade. Granted, odds are still likely that the Nets would have made a moves like this one a year or 2 ago such that the 6th pick would more likely be the 9th or 10th pick than the 6th pick. The odds are still likely that the Rockets get better value in 2027 and 2029 than they would with the 26 pick whether using foresight or hindsight.

I disagree. And it’s the 2025 and 2026, not just the 2026. Porter jr and Randle by no means for sure keep the Nets out of the bottom 3. I still think they are a bottom 3 team. Just like the supposed moves they would (or would not) have made to get “good”, had they not traded for their picks back. They would still be a bad team. Taking a swing on Flagg, or the top guys in this draft would have been better than the low odds picks we have now in a bad draft next year. We’ll see about 2029, but with the flattened odds the odds aren’t great for any team to hit it big in the lotto. How does sitting out these last two drafts help our team?

Obviously, the value got from the 2 picks the Rockets traded will help them win more and improve the odds of winning a championship. You can disagree with my assumption that the picks will offer more value long term, but acting like the Rockets got nothing out of the deal is petty. Considering you assume everything would happen exactly the way it did if the Rockets didn't make that deal (or close enough that hindsight is a legit tool to evaluate things), I don't see the big draw in Denim. On the trade itself, the Rockets got a 25 pick about as good as they gave up in 25 in the deal. At this point, it is 3 picks versus the 26 No. 6 pick assuming that the Nets are just as bad without tanking.

In 2031, I expect odds are good that the Nets end up with a good player out of the deal, but not enough to make the Rockets better than they are now. I'm not sure what happens with the 27 and 29 picks. With the new rules, the Rockets could get screwed much like the Nets. I think odds are still better that the Rockets win a lottery in 27 and 29 such that the Rockets get better player value (either through drafts or trades) than the Nets and defintely better than if the Nets had not been tanking.

It’s all house money because the Harden trade was done years ago and most people would not have done as well as Stone did.

JR is a very good talent. No rumors of particular baggage. An odd fit on court, tho isn’t Pablo, also at the 4? And yet, he is often on the move. Someone else will make it work. Some. One. Else.

We're in the apron era now. Even very good players on reasonable deals might need to be dumped for flexibility. But we're still going to give a wing who can't shoot $200M.

What did the Wolves get out of this deal? If I'm reading it right they traded Randle and a better pick for a worse pick? Why would you do that?

Save $$$$ and IIRC they just gave Ayo a new deal (5 years, $112M)... that 2nd apron is scary AF for a GM

Stand by. Something is cooking with that cap space. Chicago got Claxton for nothing.

It gave them room to sign Ayo. You know, the guy that would have solved a lot of our backcourt issues if Stone had any balls at all.

The truth is the Rockets had the Nets over a barrel because of the Nets wanting to tank but can't. And even disregarding the massive difference in quality between the 2026 and 2027 drafts, which people more or less saw coming at the time of trade, Stone only got one extra pick for all that trouble. And that was the Mavs pick back when they still had Luka. That is just bad negotiations and way overvaluing the Suns picks. They could've merged the deal with the eventual Knicks trade so they get some of the Knicks picks in the process. Perhaps these wouldn't be premium picks, but they would be worth something. Heck maybe have gotten them a PG during the deadline. Or give them some extra ammunition in this offseason for potential stars.

That’s not how statistics work. In some alternate reality where we have the nets picks, we dont get the exact same lotto picks they got. The picks could be better, they could be worse, I guess there’s a remote possibility they would come out exactly the same. My point is that it’s better to take swings on high end talent at the top of these great drafts, than to pick up these extra picks in a much weaker 2027 draft and an unknown 2029 draft. Those top few picks in 2025 look great and it’s looking like an even deeper class in 2026. That was known at the time of the trade. Stone thought he already had his guys and wanted to push back those picks because…”optionality” and star chasing. The lotto changes made it harder for any team to have good odds at a high pick for the next few years.

Those Nets picks offered a real chance at a franchise changing talent. You don’t win if u don’t play. Those picks were supposed to be the big payoff from that Harden trade. We should have taken our swing to try and get a cooper Flagg or any of the other great young talent from 2025 and 2026. Highly unlikely we get a chance at a franchise guy with those other picks. The Nets weren’t magically gonna become a great team no matter what.

It was 1 pick and 1 swapped pick for 2 picks and 2 swapped picks. The Rockets still have the 2 Suns picks coming and swappable Mavs pick. The Dallas pick at the time was the lowest perceived value of the picks. The deal was made to get the chance to swap the OKC pick with the Suns in 25 and for the 27 and 29 Suns picks. Saying the extra pick is the Dallas pick, which is one of the swaps and not the extra pick, is flat out bias as that was the lowest perceived value of the assets the Rockets got at the time of the deal.

There is a discrepancy in talent between the 26 and 27 draft. That doesn't change that the Nets would likely have finished about 7th-10th without tanking. It was 4 potential chances at winning the lottery versus 2. The increased chances at winning the lottery were perceived to make up for the 26 draft being better. You can disagree with that assessment, but the Rockets did not do the deal solely to get the Dallas pick as you characterized.

Maybe the Rockets end up getting 3 bad picks out of it. At this point, we can easily see that the Nets are hoping that the teams before them let a guy slip to them. There is so much faith in that pick that a Stone hater still sees the Nets as a bottom 3 team for the coming year despite the Flagg and Naji show finishing with the 7th worse record this past season.
