Wow - Randle basically salary dumped. The good-ish news is that it makes the Nets a little bit more competitive next season, so hopefully keeps them away from that bottom 3
Time to Cash In! Boston: Sengun, Jabari, BKN 2027 First, Rockets 2028 First Bucks: DFS, Adams, PHX 2027 First Rockets: Jaylen Brown, Queta, Myles Turner
I never said it created cap space. Not doing anything allows the Rockets to either keep the option open for keeping him with him opting in or extend him if opting out. The Rockets are trying to make moves such that which option/path is best now may not be best in a week. On the 1A, the Rockets are on track to be about $2M over if they sign Eason to a contract at the value the chronicle speculated. This is not well under the 1A. I'm not sure what the Rockets budget restraint is for this season, but I am expecting it is the 1A. I think the Rockets first choice would be to sign Tari either for less or make another move besides extending FVV to stay below the 1A. I think Rockets would rather see FVV play this year before deciding how much if anything to pay him going forward after this season. There is no force pushing Stone to make a decision right now. What happens or doesn't happen will determine which path the Rockets go. I expect the Rockets would prefer to pay FVV as much as they can this coming season instead of puching money forward.
We should probably just be patient and wait for Ant to become available. Probably the only star who might be available in the next couple years who I'd be willing to drop a truly massive haul of draft picks to acquire.
as much as we have wings. we need some guard depth too. We need guys who can come in and get buckets, drive to the rim. We lack rim pressure. No one on this team can take the ball straight to the rim. reed cant do that. FVV is within the jalen brunson mold. (poor mans version) but the 2019 version of him was Brunson when he won that ring. now we need a guard who can attack the rim it opens up offense for everyone, Sengun, KD, Amen. our guys dont look as bad. Now that Claxton is a bull maybe we can join that trade and expand it. I do want a guard like Sexton this offseason at the very least. It changes everything
Segun - Smith - Brown - Amen - FVV/Reed IMO that looks like a nice run and gun lineup I think Brown's defense is better more active than KDs and his offense is almost as good Previous trade included Pritchard I am not sold on Finney Smith Rocket River
ok my plan for free agency: The 2026–27 Houston Rockets Depth Chart Position Starter Primary Backup Bench Depth Deep Reserves / Rookies PG Fred VanVleet Amen Thompson Monte Morris (Vet Min) Braden Smith (No. 39 Pick) SG Quentin Grimes (S&T) Reed Sheppard Aaron Holiday JD Davison SF Kevin Durant Corey Kispert (MLE) Josh Okogie Tristen Newton PF Jabari Smith Jr. Tari Eason (Re-Signed) Jeff Green Isaiah Crawford (Two-Way) C Alperen Şengün Precious Achiuwa (Vet Min) Steven Adams Bismack Biyombo (Vet Min) 1. HOUSTON ROCKETS SEND: * Clint Capela ($7,035,000 salary) * 2026 No. 53 Overall Pick (Draft Asset) UNDER-CAP TEAM SENDS: * Highly protected future second-round pick (or draft rights to an international prospect) 2. HOUSTON ROCKETS RECEIVE: * Quentin Grimes (S&T: 3-year, $54M contract / $17M year one) PHILADELPHIA 76ERS RECEIVE: * Dorian Finney-Smith ($13.3M expiring contract) * Two Future Houston Second-Round Picks 3. Sign Corey Kispert to MLE 4. Vet min deals to Achiuwa and Monte Morris 5. The Tari Eason Constraint: To prevent Houston from slamming straight through the $209 million hard cap, Tari Eason cannot sign a flat contract starting at $24.1 million. Instead, his agent must agree to a heavily back-loaded 3-year, $54 million extension that starts at exactly $15.5 million in year one before escalating sharply in future seasons. The Final Standing: $206.5 Million Total Payroll With the total active payroll calculated at $206.5 million, Houston avoids crossing the line. This exact combination puts the Rockets right up against the absolute limit of the First Apron hard cap, leaving them with exactly $2.5 million in total breathing room under the $209 million hard cap line.
