It works out fine for them cause they'll have 3 starters on rookie contracts for at least the next 2 years. Trae's will expire the same year they'll need to pay AJ. I just looked at their cap sheet and Trae and AD are literally the only players not on rookie or minimum contracts. They don't even have anyone on MLE money. Rookie contracts are so good for flexibility.
I figured they would get him well below that max. No way anyone else would pay Trae that much, right? Seems crazy to me just on the value per dollar spent.

Sam, I always thought Bontemps was reasonably smart but he was terrible at media. I have no idea how he lasted as long as he did at ESPN. pmac, mostly likely his role will be analytical. Based on his shtick of being blunt and often cold at ESPN, I doubt he's built many front office relationships. I honestly don't think Bontemps could have stayed at ESPN long term and going behind the scenes is what he's programmed for.
