I can agree with moving KD. I think trading for him was the wrong accelerator. The problem is finding someone who would not only take him but also give up some kind of value. GSW comes to mind but what would the Rockets do with Butler? Maybe LAC want to go in the opposite direction and pair KD with Leonard but that’s unlikely. The Heat, but I really don’t want the Rockets to trade for Herro. Honestly, I would be shocked if the Rockets make any major trades this offseason. I advocate for staying the course and improving on the margins. I think they desperately need a back up 2 who can shoot on a vet min like Tim Hardaway. Not a sexy move but I think it could be a real difference maker for this team. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a healthy season from FVV and Adams as well.
I said that in an earlier post that I just don't know if Sengun will garner enough in a trade, as well. He has been in the playoffs going on 2 yrs and because his game is mainly around the basket and that he struggles against length, I just don’t see the attraction for a trade with other teams. However, I thought since Tiago Spiltter coached him innthe past and got the Chicago job, that he would be interested in Sengun
I like this approach because it will almost assuredly mean Stone and Ime are fired at the end of the season.
You say this then advocate for trading guys who clearly out play Jabari. He's not expected to score because he can't. He can't post up. He can dribble, he's an average shooter he cant pass. These are true statements regardless of how much of a fan you are of his
He still isn't great in that area, but he did noticeably improve this season. He had some good drives. I honestly trust him more with the ball in his hands than Tari. I think their handles are about the same, but Jabari has less false confidence in his ability to dribble through traffic; he's a better decisionmaker, in other words. Tari will go full head of steam into traffic and turn it over or make the ugliest shot attempt you've ever seen.
Yeah that’s key, a self awareness that you can’t make a play unless you have Johnny Furphy on you. These are the qualities you see in champions. You need a certain level of panic and pass it to whoever’s closest to you.
I mean, yeah, you do need guys who can stay within themselves on a championship team, play their role, and not try to do too much at the expense of better players. These types of players won't be your first, second, or probably even third best player, but that doesn't mean they aren't valuable. It's disappointing that Jabari isn't more of an offensive creator and didn't end up having as much talent as we all hoped, and seems likely to be more of a 4th/5th starter, but being a starter on a playoff team pretty much automatically makes you an above average NBA player. He is what he is. I guess I just don't see the point in living in bitterness and disappointment. It doesn't seem like he's a sh*t person off the court, nor does he dog it on the court. So I'm fine with rooting for him to do well, regardless of where he was picked in the draft.
I thought Smith played pretty well. Most of the season outside of that one slow he had. I’m still excited for his future and I do not believe him to be a finished product. I look at it as which players compliment Amen and potentially Sengun long term. Jabari Certainly does.
I have not dropped a trade in a while so I’m going to drop an idea based around the concept that we keep Kevin and that FVV returns. To Mil Sengun DFS 2029 from Houston (top 5 protected) Jovic FRP from Miami To Miami Giannis Capela To Houston Ware Turner Kasparas FRP from Miami Gary Trent Turner/Ware/Adams Smith/Eason Durant/Amen Amen/Okogie/Trent FVV/Reed/Kasparas
I agree with what you say about championship teams, but I've seen Bari and Reed try to do too much. S lot of our young guys in general. A lot of our leads were blown because they would dribble drive and put up these contested midrange or 3 point shots. Instead of realizing ball movement is ehat got them the lead. Your ceiling for him is correct, but I dont think Bari the person accepts that.
who cares about pick 39. We have drafted one 1st round player in 3 yrs. How does that make any sense?
I agree with this. They should have kept prioritizing draft picks until they found a clear centerpiece.
If Kingston Flemings fell to #10, I'd be open to making a move for him. Bucks trade: M.Turner, #10, A.Green Bucks get: A.Sengun Why? The Bucks seem to be interested in Sengun, but I think they'd prefer to do the Celtics JB trade (probably a 3-way with the Blazers, with them getting young pieces back from Portland). If they got Scoot, some other piece(s) and a bunch of picks + Sengun, that'd be a great starting point to rebuild. Wizards trade: Ky.George, J.Hardy Wizards get: R.Sheppard Why? The Wizards seem set on Dybantsa at #1, which makes sense as the BPA for most. But they have a ton of young Wings behind him (T.Johnson, Riley, George, Coulibaly, Whitmore, Champagne), and not a ton of Guard talent, especially if Trae walks. They like George, but can afford to lose him for a young shooting PG like Sheppard, who'd fit well with AJ, their other athletic Wings, Sarr and possibly AD. Rockets trade: A.Sengun, R.Sheppard Rockets get: K.Flemings (#10), Ky.George, M.Turner, A.Green, J.Hardy (salary filler) Why? Arguably the two biggest problems on the Rockets roster heading into the year is the lack of spacing with Sengun/Amen being 2 of the teams 3 best players, and the likely issues that playing Sheppard/FVV together will bring in terms of size on defense in the playoffs. Flemings gives us a UH speed demon who can defend, create and make strong decisions at PG, while George is a 6'8" playmaking wing who averaged 15/5/5 and has defensive upside as well, and Turner is a C who can protect the rim and can space the floor. Green as a shooting-specialist is a sweetener. M.Turner - S.Adams J.Smith Jr. - T.Eason K.Durant - Ky.George A.Thompson - A.Green F.VanVleet - K.Flemings Team gets younger, more athletic and has fewer shooting liabilities.
MIL IN: DFS, Clint & Rockets 2028 First HOU IN: Turner FVV/Reed Amen/Okogi KD/Tari Sengun/Bari Turner/Adams This trade and resigning Tari would make them a 1st apron team, so expect a cost cutting move at the deadline unless things go REALLY well.
Cross your fingers, toes, arms, legs and eyes and you still may not be able to conjure up enough luck.
I want them to move on from KD as well but after getting that level of prize I think they are just going to try and get a legit player this off-season to pair with him. I think they will be going full Championship or bust this year.
I like this. I’ve posted different iterations of Turner trades that are usually way more complex, but I think that at its core that is very simple and I like it a lot. I am not even convinced it would necessarily take the first round pick. not sure where his value is these days. I’ve seen some people say it’s negative. that being said, I would definitely do that deal with some light protections on the draft pick. I think adding Turner would just do a lot for us.
