I dont think this is true at all. FIrst of all reed is not a zero on defense. Neither is Josh actually. This board really needs to stop thinking NOT ELITE = TOTALLY BAD. He's average. Jalen brunson is average and he's the finals MVP.
Amen and Sengun fit great together. I dont know where you guys get these ideas from. Amen and Sengun together actually have had us winning. Are you ignoring the Rockets record over the last 2 years because of the playoffs? lol Our issue is point guard AND JABARI. Amen is being forced to play point guard becuase Jabari is there. If you move Amen to power forward and Reed to sg and you have a real point guard that can rebound and is one if the best passers in the NBA it would be great. We would still have KD althogh I would trade him too to get younger.
Your main gripe on Jabari seems to be that he is slow, but are not at all worried about FVV and KD who are decrepit ball stoppers. FVV probably has gotten to the hoop 15 times in 3 years and missed 10 times. We all want the Rockets to win. People hate some of my ideas, but I don’t care and will laugh at them or myself as long as we keep it civil.
Jabari does nothing but shoot badly and defend. both Amen and Sengun have played allstar level at times and they are young and will get better. Jabari is a complete disapointment from what he was supposed to be. I just dont get wanting to keep Jabari but to each their own I guess.
Yeah I’m more neutral towards KD and FVV. I’m not auto against a trade including them I just don’t think they have the same discrepancy between trade value vs production value that Jabari does. Best version of Fred can run, pass, catch, dribble, shoot, and guard POA. I might prescribe more of his past playstyle to what we needed from him vs the only way he can play. But I’m not a fan of depending on him as the sole PG. KD is still a bucket and that still has its place but that’s a lot of value equity that we can’t currently afford to just retire off, so if value is there and time is right trading him is solid logic.
One of my favorite podcasts is dunc'd on and they once talked about giddey and made a reasonable argument that he is the single most damaging defender in the nba. The reasoning was that he's basically a 3/4 on defense because he absolutely cannot guard a small player, so he HAS to guard a wing. He's also terrible at that, so his awfulness there forces you to do other stuff. Reed is MILES better then josh on defense but he is also small and needs to be protected.
The potential part is true, it's possible that one day he can reach the point where he's a bad defender. Can he be average? I doubt that, but he could probably get to the point where he's bad. If we had wemby or gobbert, sure it wouldn't matter, but we don't. If giddey is on your team, he is also the guy running your offense. He's alright, but i just am not interested in that.
Are you basing that on a podcast? How many games have you watched Giddey play? I’m not a huge fan in reality. I just threw out a trade to try and get somebody close to talent to Sengun and the 4th pick in this loaded draft. I want Amen to run the offense in the long-run. This trade is one of about 50 I’ve thrown out there to try and get us closer to championship level.
ya i'm not worried about giddey being traded here, it was just more jarring then some of the other stuff people post so i responded, that's all
I see Sengun’s value right now as a top 3 pick in this draft and a good player or a top 10 pick in this draft and 2 good players. I think Sengun with a 3 pointer is an elite offensive player, but still a poor defensive player. You can hide one bad defensive player, but the Rockets are trying to get by with too many suspect defensive players. Not having a rim protector is a huge hole for this team.
The last 4 champion 5s weren’t Dikembe Mutumbo. Most were Sengun level or worse when they were 23 years old. Karl Anthony Towns Hartenstein/Chet Kristaps Porzingis Nikola Jokic Meanwhile, the last 4 championship 4s were very fast coordinated athletes: OG Anunoby Chet/Jalen Williams Jayson Tatum Aaron Gordon There ain’t no way Sengun stands out against his group more than Bari does. Playing down an athlete (2 with KD) is the huge hole. The running team you’re describing is getting Amen closer to the basket defensively having more fast POA defenders that can pressure the ball on the perimeter and having Amen be the one helping rim protect and farm rebounds.
This, I just feel like Houston gets these talking point stuck in their heads and they run with them and they dont make sense in reality. No one around hte NBA values Jabari the way this board does. He is one dimentional. He isnt elite at anything. He cant dribble or pass. Low BBIQ, never know where to be. He's supposed to be a shooter but he does that slightly at average. He is supposed to be a defender but is slightly above average to average at that. He is our top pick since Jalen left but his contirbution is the worst of all of them. He takes up a spot Amen would be dominating and gettting credit as an elite defender and rebounder. Again I just dont understand.
Agreed on the Amen point. He was first team defense, when he had Jalen, FVV, and Dillon to guard the perimeter and he could roam. You could hide Sengun on defense with that lineup, but our outside shooting sucked. It’s a double edged sword. They brought in KD and gave up 2 good perimeter defenders to get an outside shooter. When FVV went down, it further diluted the perimeter defense. Jabari is a good defender at the PF spot, but is only average at perimeter defense and Tari can’t stay on the floor. Again, the problem is roster construction. You can keep Sengun if you get rid of KD, a SG than can play defense and hit 3’s and Tari or DFS can stay on the floor and hit 3’s. If those 2 don’t show up you also need to get a SF. KD at a miniimum needs to be traded to help round at this roster, but it will take more than just that unless he brings back a 3&D SG and a 3&D SF. Jabari is the least of our chemistry issues.
Listen I like those guys and they are a fun watch for laughs but they arent always right. You could say they are wrong most of the time in predictions like a lot of podcasts and they arent the deepest of minds. Anyway as I said the reigning FInals MVP has the same defensive rating as Josh. Josh GIddey was leading a team to a winning record before the trades and is averaging a near triple double. Jabari has led nothing and is like 4th or 5th best player on the team. Reed will surpass him next year. If the Bulls want that trade Im saying yes immediately.
I kinda get it, the 2 second snapshot of Jabari making a 3 pointer looks amazing. It’s hard to imagine he could be the problem in the moment after seeing it. And then just group consensus psychology. All the podcasters love him, Craig and Ryan hype him to no end. He’s what everyone always wanted in the James Harden heliocentric era. He does 1 thing well on both sides of the court (standstill jump shot and contest shot with long arms) so he’s a 2 way player by technicality which you’re supposed to want.
Oh i would say giddey is a far more damaging defender then brunson is, but ya brunson is horrid. I'm totally happy to build around an elite offensive player who sucks on defense, but giddey is not anywhere close to that. Idk where jabari came from, never mentioned him but if the offer is giddey for jabari i'm laughing for a few minutes before i hang up.
Im talking aobut this quote "the offer is giddey for jabari i'm laughing for a few minutes before i hang up."
Ya of course, like i said i view giddey as a negative on his contract for the rockets, so i would simply not make any trade for him without getting back picks. Like i personally would not do dfs and capela for giddey.
