The only monies the players don't get paid during a lockout are their regular season salaries. All bonuses/deferments/etc are still in place. IIRC.

Yes, arrogance. He thought he was so good that he didn't need to make friends or play nice and instead preferred to throw things in people's faces or just deny things and think he can get away with it. Perfect example was how he handled the reporter-assistant GM fiasco. That's basically the definition of arrogance. Ultimately, it left him no friends and cost him his career.
I'm not sure it would be too surprising. Last year, they had similar injuries and same crappy manager and finished the season only 3 games out of a much stronger division.
