7 pitches for the last 3 outs. What a comeback. 33-41. Over halfway to a losing season. Impressive Joe. Maybe rest Yordan and Pena tomorrow.
Just like that... the 2 wins vs KC are nullified with two losses. The 2 wins vs KC, preceded by 2 straight losses @ LAA. All these teams suck supposedly. Astros aren't far behind if they're behind at all.
Basketball is over, football hasn't started, and the Astros are ass. This will be a rough sports summer.
This team’s pitching has been terrible and Hunter Brown returning can’t solve that. Despite running out a AAAA lineup most nights, their offense has been good enough that they should be in the mix with how bad the AL is. Frustrating to watch and it sucks to waste an all time season from Yordan.
Swapping out Hunter brown for one of the clowns in the current rotation is a pretty massive boost. Not saying the team is a real contender but if you had Hunter Brown starting all the games Burrows has started so far this team would probably be close to .500.
Espada said nothing about playing it clean postgame. Some unfortunate dingers I hear. We had home scorekeeping so no error recorded. You don't need to look far to see the culture or lack of it with current Astros. In 2 two run game in 5th inning of game we desperately need to win front of home crowd when you have just clawed back to the game and Cam feels he has Manny Ramirez like rights to goof around pretending to look for the booted ball in glove because does't feel like going after it. He proceeds to walk after it when nobody else is coming. We are talking about young player in phase of proving himself that he belongs in bigs. About pitching, we have what we have. Don't know if we get anything for Paredes but now this trade deadline trading Pena & Brown would give a great haul if you trust Dana picking the players. Would't trade Walker because we can't develop any bats ourself and every bat that comes here is worse than before. So we would have some protection for Yordan next played season.
US Open this weekend. World Cup until mid July. Wimbledon in a few week and Texans training camp coming soon. I'm good.
The magic stardust on Teng and Arrighetti has worn off, which was completely predictable despite some of the blind hopium around here. This rotation literally doesn't have a single player whose a proven good MLB starter except Brown and one pitcher can't do that much heavy lifting. The offense is bad, the rotation is bad, this is a bad team. The AL being terrible and our recent franchise success just deluded people into thinking otherwise. Go ahead and fire Espada, he sucks plenty, but this isn't a team thats "underachieving", its a team that lacks talent. I'm sure we'll be close enough that Crane is gonna keep trying and extend our rebuild timeline by years. This is Astros 2006 all over again.
It wouldn’t fix the bullpen and as bad as Burrows removing his team leading innings pitched would put even more pressure on the bullpen. McCullers and Javier might be an upgrade in this rotation and neither has been good in the last ~4 years.
Brown would be leading this team in innings so not sure how that is relevant. I'm not even suggesting they are going to remove Burrows from the rotation because they aren't at this moment, although may happen when Javier returns. My point was we are 4-10 in Burrows starts. I feel pretty comfortable saying Hunter Brown could have gone 8-6 in those starts in his place and therefore that would have put us at .500 and "in the mix in the bad AL". So while his return doesn't make us a good team or an actual contender, there is such a massive gap between him and the backend guys of this current rotation that yes he will make a significant difference. Edit: That being said, I do agree with sealclubber - we have gotten lucky with Arrighetti's performance. I was the first one on here telling everyone to cool the talk about him being some savior. He's a backend of the rotation type of pitcher so moving forward we'll probably be in the same place as we are now even with Brown's return.
You tell us Here's the most starts by position: https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/pos.shtml Here's every 2026 starting lineup: https://www.thebaseballcube.com/content/stats_mlb.asp?ID=2026~13&view=off
I'm not the one b****ing about giving a 36 year old guy coming off an oblique injury some rest here and there. And not the one pretending that if you just play people more and don't give them rest, they'll perform exactly the same. They lost Sunday without 2 starters. They lost Monday with their starters. They are not a good team either way.
