Just a stat I was curious to find in order to try to test the hypothesis that Amen learning to shoot would make us a top team.

Also of note: Four of those losses were by 2 points or fewer.

Of course, the flip side of this stat is that there were only 22 games this season where Amen made a three pointer. That's bad in and of itself. (For context, there were 19 games where he didn't even attempt one, and 49 games where he attempted 1 or fewer.)

To also do Sengun: We were 16-9 (64.0% win rate) in games where Sengun hit a three pointer. So, pretty much the same as our actual winning percentage (63.4%) on the season.

Lock Amen in the gym and make him take three pointers all day!

Again... Amen Thompson has been playing basketball professionally for 5 years now, and his 3pt percentage actually fell this year. He's been in the gym working with professional shooting coaches for a long time now and it's just not happening.

And even when Amen hits a 3pt shot, it's only because he's left wide open. If he had anyone actually running at him, like nearly every other shooter, his percentage would be even lower.

Amen needs to be a power forward and shoot inside like OG AnoNobu

If something happens to Sengun or Amen they’re not gonna make it in the Paralympics.

Those dudes shoot like 50% from 3 in wheel chair basketball.

Amen would easily be a top 10 player if he had a jumper…

Saying he has been playing professionally for 5 years is disingenuous on your part. I guess you can say every college player is playing professionally now.

Amen is going to get a jumper and be at least a top 10 performer. If I was his training staff, I would have him practicing the shoulder bump off shot that SGA has perfected 75% of the time and 3 pointers 25% of the time he is practicing shooting. He should also be practicing some countermoves in the lane. Anybody doubted this kid is going to be embarrassed.

Yeah, at some point, hope starts turning into cope, and at what point do we reach that with Amen? Year 5? Year 6? Year 7?

every time somebody brings up Amen’s horrible shooting it’s always in the back of my mind that these are his percentages when he’s basically left unguarded and his jump shot is never even contested

it’s a shame too because he has all the tools to be great, but his main weakness is a horrific one

Honestly he just needs to keep shooting the corner 3, he’s hopeless from the wings

Obviously Amen and/or Sengun learning to shoot would greatly help our team... spacing in addition to actually scoring...

but this stat is a case of coincidence rather than causation imo...

not to mention, how many of these games were we winning handily, so either felt no pressure in chucking up a 3?

arent we unbeaten when Capela hits a 3? lol

but we also had him trying to be a pg and everything along with that...

we gotta stop trying to force round pegs into square holes and devise gameplans that play into our guys strengths - rather than trying to make them into something that they arent...

I remember in preseason his 3 point shot was looking good but it was a fluke.

OG takes more than half of his shot attempts from beyond the arc (where he shots .377 on his career).

    Outstanding 3 pt shooter
    Terrible, terrible, comparison

If he could improve his shooting… this team would reach the next level.

yep. If he’s able to shoot it’s over for the league I guarantee. Teams would have to scramble to defend All those rotations weakside to the corner or wing when they trap durant or sengun.
