REALISTICALLY....What can be done to catch SA and OKC?

The Rockets need more length and athleticism in both the front and backcourt.

However, Giannas is going to either Miami or Boston. He has already said he wants to be on the East Coast. And I think Boston is going to want a ransom for Brown; Jabari, Tari, fillers and Draft picks.

Whether we believe it or not Sengun's trade value is down at this point. Reed Sheppard is one dimensional and probably brings little to no trade value, as well. And based on what Im hearing, the Rockets want to keep Jabari, Amen and Tari.

So, that leaves the Older Crew; KD, FVV, DFS and Adams. And out of those players only KD has true trade value! And with all of that being said and to be REALISTIC, I think the Rockets need to trade KD. I've been a proponent of trading Sengun but to who and for what? After seeing the NBA Finals, who else is going to want a small center who can’t shoot?

I think the perfect trade, if Giannas does not go to Miami, I would trade KD to Miami for Herro, Ware, filler and the #13 pick.

    C- Ware/Adams
    PF - Sengun/Tari
    SF - Jabari/Tari/#13 pick
    SG - Herro/Reed/ #13 pick
    PG - Thompson/FVV

Hopefully, Sengun finally develops a 3pt shot. Along with Herro, Ware and Jabari, they will have 3-4 players who can shoot from the beyond the arc over 35%. Ware provides a shot blocking presence, along with Jabari and Amen.

Finally, it puts the young core back on the same timeline and strengthens the bench

How does that catch us up to either of those teams? That roster still screams 1st round exit

it’s still a bunch of mediocre to good, but nowhere near great, players with a bunch of flaws

Gonna be hard to catch up with them in the next couple years without burning through assets and taking a big swing like Giannis which I do not prefer

Somehow turning FVV, DFS, maybe Tari S&T, Capella or Adams, and the PHX27’ into both Dejounte Murray & Ty Jerome would fix a lot of our guard issues and wouldn’t be some huge trade like a Jaylen Brown trade would. Would love the KD for Herro, Ware, and 13 but doubt that

I’d prefer to retool while Spurs & Thunder battle it out a couple more years. Amen & Jabari are only 23. Run it back this year and spend the next few years rebuilding around those two with the 27’s, our 28, and both 29’s. FVV, KD, Adams, will all be coming off the books. Build / buy a new team by 2029 and hopefully Spurs / OKC are coming back down to earth. I’d trade FVV, KD, Sengun this offseason but doubt we will. At least with KD on the team the boys will probably get playoff experience every year

The only thing I can think of that could possibly put us on that level is if somebody like Ant demands a trade. I can't see another path.

I still can't believe we sat on our hands all year without even an NBA average PG. We need two of those, not just one. We also need a decent offensive coach who can design a scheme for the unique talents we do have. Those two things would help a great deal and put players in more comfortable roles.

Still, basketball is the sport where team success is most dependent on individual performance. Crappy QBs win Super Bowls all the time, but it is exceedingly rare to see an NBA championship won by a team without a transcendent player. Often, really good teams get beat by that one guy. Of course, this may be the year where that is not the case, as Wemby is still young and the Knicks, though they do not have a historical-level superstar, do have a crew of well above average players who are tough and not scared of the moment.

We don't have that guy, so we should forget about Wemby and Shai. We cannot copy the Spurs or Thunder. Instead, try to emulate the Knicks or that Pistons team that beat the Lakers. It's an extremely narrow path, and many things must go right, but it is the only way that is open as of now. And really, that's the best and most fun journey if we can get there.

(Of course, it would be a bit easier with decent uniforms. What you wear definitely affects performance and our "new" uniforms are a jumbled mess, much like our offense.)

Not so much worrying about Sengun developing a 3pt shot. I prefer him to finish around the paint more efficiently.
In addition, we need Sengun to improve his defense.

This is really an under appreciated outlook. If Sengun can up his lane game efficiency 10 percent then you gamble amen gets a shot, trade kd for a decent shooting guard or draft one and be an instant contender.

Patience. If we hit on some of our first round picks over the next five years, we might be close to contending.

Looking at the NY Knicks roster, who on their roster would you say was a Top 10 player when they signed or traded for them at the time?

Towns was looked at as a disappointment, Dallas let Brunson walk, Bridges and Anunoby were looked at as good but not great players.

To me at this time its about team building! If the Rockets trade for an upgrade, they are going to have to give up draft capital and young talent, while depleting the roster....so are you really getting better?

I think Herro and Ware both still have upside. KD has two more yrs at best.

Great point! Copying the Knicks, which was what I was getting at. A big that can shoot beyond the arc with big guards.

Get new scouting team, new GM, new coach, get high draft position (tank), trade for future picks, and pray we get a cornerstone player.

this “disappointing Towns” you speak of was ROY, a 4x All-Star, 2x All-NBA, career averages of 23, 11, and 3, and was one of the best shooting bigs in the league when he was with the Wolves before he ever step foot in NY…he was also the 2nd best player on a WCF team

I’m not sure what the point is of Dallas letting Brunson walk. That the Mavs were dumb? They eventually traded Luka as well.

Bridges had already been a key member of a Finals team and was one of the most efficient role players in the league plus made 1st Team All-Defense and finished 2nd in DPOY before being traded to BK and having to cosplay as a #1 option.

OG Anunoby has always been a good role player, good shooter, and good defender.

Tyler Herro has upside? He’s going into his 8th season. Bro, let’s be serious.

You’re talking about who on the Knicks was a top 10 player, and I’m looking like who on that Rockets roster is even top 20? Sure, I’ll take Herro and Ware over ancient KD, but that’s not catching the Spurs or Thunder or even a healthy Wolves. That’s just a different flavor of 1st round exit.

All true, KAT was a good shooter and yes he was accomplished but he was viewed as a player who you could not win a championship with, because he only focused on one end of the court.

Yes, Dallas messed up but at the time Brunson was no where near the Brunson we see now. And Anunoby and Bridges were and still are good role players....they're never going to be looked at as a first or second option on a championship team.

I think that roster, as I presented, can be a 6th or 7th Seed due to the depth, shooting, and length next yr but going forward, with the draft capital, they can catch SA and OKC

Personally, I would LOVE to trade Sengun but like I said, he is not going to bring back much in return and neither is Reed. So, I think by trading KD, they can do a soft reset.
