ICE agents already have...so I'm sure some of the military would if given the order and cover that it's a legal order.

If you mean would a unit level a city like you always see in a zombie film, but it's just a no kings protest, probably not......yet.

 

Most vets I know would want to punch you for lumping in ICE with military.

They also deeply understand what a cluster**** Trump has been for the government, the military and the republic.

First, go ask a vet if they would shoot their neighbor.

Secondly, in order for the military to get involved, it would require a very heavily armed force. I'm not talking about a couple hundred red necks with ARs. Such a force would not materialize as the government would stop them early on.
And we are far from a civil war.

Some if you need to get off the internet and get to know your neighbors. The vast majority of people are normal middle of the road people, not the weird extremist found in these forums and internet

Occupying a city under something like martial law with a shoot on sight curfew without good justification, probably not.

 

Do they tho? If an election was held tomorrow, and Trump was on the ballot yet again, he’d get 60-70% of the vet vote. 65% of them voted for him in 2024 even after Jan 6th. Hell, a lot of them were there storming the Capitol. Maybe you’re just lucky to only know that 30%.

I think a number of military personnel would definitely fire on US citizens if given the order. We know white nationalist have infiltrated. A lot of them probably fall for the culture war BS too

Some military would, but some wouldn’t. The Pete Hegseth types are out there and would love to shoot people.

 

I suspect that Neil Young believes that the military would.

 

Issuing that order would be a serious roll of the dice.

Maybe they shoot. Maybe they don't. I imagine it comes down to the actual people on the ground pulling the trigger. If they don't, though - if Trump issued that order and the military revolted - Trump would be cooked.

If Trump wanted to do that, his best bet would be to hand-select a cadre of the biggest MAGA nuts and total psychos in the military to be his goon squad and put them all together in the same unit. If you could hand-pick and vet a select group, I'm 100% certain you could create a group of like-minded types, I'm 100% sure you could put together a unit that'd do whatever the hell the President ordered.

If you are only pulling from the 1% most antisocial fanatical individuals in the military, 100%, no problem.

If you just call up a random group of the lowest skilled National Guard infantrymen like at Kent State, I suspect the outcome would be much more unpredictable.

 

I hope so. There are also lots of vets and people currently in the military that love him.

 

Maybe some that are super loyal to the government. Most are not, they're there for patriotism, family line, benefits, money etc. n don't give 2 craps about the government. So therefore no, its unlikely that the US military would shoot its own people even if its ordered by the government. The founding fathers were aware of it, because of Rome, thats why its set up the way it is.

 

For those who think it can't happen. Think of what has happened to the FBI and the DOJ in the last 2 years. They used to be full of stand up people who believed in doing the right thing. Eventually, they start getting pushed out and then the rest quit because of the toxic environment, and all is left is people who are either horrible or just following orders. The DOD is doing that now also by pushing out generals and blocking promotions. Eventually all the stand up guys leaders just don't want to fight anymore and they recruit a bunch of white Jan 6 types that would storm the capitol building to replace them.

What gets labeled as a “security threat” keeps expanding... now including cartels, cyber threats, etc. And with MAGA not caring at all for due process, it’s reasonable to expect that this expands further.

 

This has probably been the thinking of plenty of countries, before it happened. You would have to have near total loyalty within the ranks, and be able to successfully paint the people you wish dead as the enemy. It isn't about whether you would shoot your neighbor, but rather attack a group of random people you've never known that you are told is evil.

 

If some do while others do not, that still counts as military firing in citizens. I don't see how this is even a debate. Of they would. National Guard fired on Kent State students even without a presidential order.

When socialists took over Paris in 1870 and established the Paris Commune, the army brought non-Parisians to violently suppress it, figuring Parisian soldiers might balk. For the provincial soldiers, it was apparently not a problem. In 1985, police bombed a townhouse in Philly because the occupants were 'dangerous radicals.' Obama missile-striked a US citizen al Qaeda fighter and most people were fine with it. I really don't think getting people to other their fellow citizens and then filling them full of lead is all that hard. If the target is bigger, the gaslighting of the soldiers has to increase with it, but that's nothing the feds can't manage.
