S&T Easton For Anthony Black Both help their new teams and benefit from a fresh start and a larger role.
Good on him going for the bag, but I think I'd pass on that contract. He's already 28 and not a great defender.
Yeah, my initial reaction was, that's way too much money for Reaves. The one thing I do wonder--he's played with first LeBron and AD, and now with LeBron and Luka his entire career. Is there any possibility there's more in there (i.e. Brunson) if he were given the opportunity? He's averaging 28, 8 and 5 in 16 games without LeBron this season. I don't know what the odds are he can replicate that over a full season as the #1 option. I'm inclined to think they're low, but non-zero?
I think he gets beneficial treatment playing for the Lakers. He was 27th in the league in free throw attempts this past year. He is a really good offensive player that would help us considerably and would pair nicely with Amen. I don’t think he gets the max he is shooting for, but we can’t afford him for anything more than 40m a year. I think FA’s are in for a rude awakening this off-season. Teams that are already competing for the championship will use bird rights to go over the 2nd apron, because the inflexibility that comes with being a 2nd apron team is not as painful if you already have an elite roster. OKC and SA are in the unique position of having very tradeable vets and multiple good first round picks from other teams. Barring injuries those two teams will be elite for a decade. I think the Lakers will probably retain Reeves.
I've seen the narrative a lot that Reaves is only good because of the Lakers' whistle, but I'm not sure how much to read into it. I'd have to see data supporting that players who go to the Lakers from other teams start getting significantly more FT attempts to fully buy into it. That's not to say it couldn't be the case for only certain specific players I suppose. But I don't know why some random undrafted free agent would get that benefit, I'd think it would more apply to star players like LeBron and Luka. Anyway, yeah, I'd agree that Reaves is likely to return as a Laker, but in our situation I might not mind taking a shot on him on the off chance they're open to it, especially if we can just get him for KD and nothing else. I think Reaves is a bad fit with Reed and Sengun though defensively. But I'm not married to either of those guys moving forward and I don't mind taking a step back on our defense for another shot at finding a #1 guy.
the time to take a shot at Reaves was 3 yrs ago, when he was a restricted FA, we had all the cap space in the world, and the Lakers were constrained and worried about another team making an offer. Many of us thought he was a guy we should be throwing money at. We ended up using our space on other players, which was fine, but we had enough to get Dillon, Fred and AR. Not gonna kill Stone for that but it was a conversation at the time, and he continues to be very risk adverse. We aren't gonna be able to get AR now.
HOU in Jamal Murray Cameron Johnson DEN in Kevin Durant Fred VanVleet Money works, and I think it makes some level of sense for both teams. Denver needs to get better defensively and improve their flexibility while making a late-prime push with Joker, and this moves them in that direction. (They can probably also get another guard with their mini-MLE and the flexibility moving Murray gives them.) We need to get younger, improve our floor spacing, ballhandling, and playmaking, and this does that for us, albeit at the cost of eating the Murray contract, which... isn't great.
I saw this trade proposal on X, would you guys be down with this? Nets: Jabari Smith, DFS, Capela, 2027 Nets First Rockets: MPJ, 2026 Nets First (Pick 6)
A big NO from me. Jabari is more important than MPJ. If it was the 4th pick from Chicago, I would say yes.
It's hard to see the Rockets actually getting into this draft after committing all their resources to veterans last year in an attempt at a championship. A rookie will not get much playing time in an Udoka lineup this year so it would be like taking a step backwards in their eyes. If they were to take a swing at one I think it would only be for a home run player like Wemby or Flagg and no one is going to trade a pick with that caliber player available so I think it's more of the same next year.
I wouldn't do it from Houston's perspective. And I can't really fathom why the Nets would do it either? There is no discernable benefit to controlling their own pick in 2027 as opposed to using the #6 pick in 2026.
Hell yeah, but make it a 3 way trade and immediately flip MPJ for a 2 way guard. The last thing we need is a new 4th best power forward in the starting lineup. Need to pressure the ball and speed up a lot. But yeah pick 6 and whatever return you can get trading MPJ. for Jabari/DFS and a first. Easy yes.
I think you could flip MPJ to Portland for maybe Shaedon Sharp and Grant Maybe we could talk to Philly in a 3 way trade for Grimes
Tons of options. Dallas has PJ Washington/Max Christie and #9. Could get another vet guard like Jrue Holiday or Kyrie Irving and get more future picks the worse the contract looks from an outside perspective. The 43 million owed to DFS/Jabari/Capela is 100% the salary we should be trading to get better.
I would take Reeves over KD as far as fit is concerned. It would be all about the contract with me. I’d be very weary of taking on Reeves at 45m for 4/5 years as opposed to 1 more year of KD. You may be right on the ft’s although I’d expect them to go down a bit. Amen was not getting the calls that Reeves gets when going into the lane, but that may be due to his less than vet status. Reeves is not as bad at defense as Reed, because of his length. I can live with an Amen/Reeves backcourt defensively. Spacing on offense would still not be ideal if Sengun or Amen don’t develop a 3 point shot, but it would be better than with KD and the ball wouldn’t be as sticky.
I like this trade, especially if we can move MPJ to a 3rd team for a real asset. The player we get at #6 will be better than Bari. I also believe we can get equal or better value than a 2027 1st for MPJ. Getting off Capela and DFS is a huge bonus. I don’t think Brooklyn does this deal though. Maybe. Very good trade proposal!
I would do it in a second and it seems like a decent trade for Denver. Murray is expensive but a huge upgrade over FVV and Durant is a bad fit for the Rockets. I think Denver would be much more inclined to hang onto Murray and try to sub in Braun who was a disappointment for them and take out FVV from the trade. I’d think about it if they would throw in their 26 pick.
Would you do KD for Irving and #9? Would Dallas? How about KD, Reed, 29 Dal pick for Irving, Christie, and #9?
