I think that Alpi expect also more from his self but this season was a very difficult season for the Rockets. Because all of the injuries the flexibility was not gaven in the offense. You give the Ball to Amen or Alpi and wait that something happens. That was Imes Offense Plan. I am an Alpi fan but i am not sure about his Role in the Team. It looks right now, that he cant be Batman. He can be maybe if you get a strong PG a strong Robin. He need to develop his 3 Point shooting to make the next step. I am sure that his Talented to shoot 3 Pointers but i am not sure if this will happen at his Rockets Time. The Fan base is very stressed and Players feel that. We will see what happens with Alpi. I think it will be a mistake to trade him but i cant anticipate what the Owners think about the Team. Maybe they want to build a contender and will go all in and try to Trade for J. Brown and Giannis together. In my opinion you cannot play next year with Alpi and KD together. This will not work!
Wemby is scared of physicality, or at least can't handle it well. He ate up Chet but struggles against strong low post players. Alpi had an up and down season but Wemby he has played evenly.
Funny you say that because KAT was known as an underachiever and kinda disappointing for years. I remember very well how he used to score like 8 points in elimination games. Now at 30, paired with a superstar PG and elite role players, he is a much better player. If anything he is a very good example why you shouldn't give up too quickly on Alpi. Unless you have a very good offer and a very good idea of what kind of team you want to build.
I 100% agree with Vecenie on Sengun's defense: He's average at best, he looks better than he is statistically because of our scheme and what's around him. I also agree with him about Sengun's core problem, which is that he really spends too much time with the ball in his hands for a guy who is not that efficient as a scorer. I'm going to keep banging this drum: I still think Sengun is a very talented player who can be the #2 option on a contender, but he has to start playing more like that type of guy, more of a connective, pass-first player than a #1 scorer. He is a talented passer with good court vision, there's no reason for him to hold onto the ball so long and force up so many tough shots. On this team, as built right now, KD is the #1 scorer, and Sengun's first priority should be to create opportunities for KD and other players. Scoring for himself should come more in the flow of the offense, not be forced so often. He also absolutely must let it fly when he's wide open behind the three point line. If he can't learn to shoot that ball adequately (like 33-34% on 3-4 attempts) he is so, so hard to fit onto a contending team and he will be doomed to always be one of the top players on a non-contending team. I consider becoming a 3P shooter absolutely vital for Sengun's career and legacy and he needs to start taking those shots without hesitation. If he can't make improvements in those specific areas I think we have to move on from him.
It's much smarter (on our part) to move him on to a team who believes they can develop him in those areas. Problem is, if he doesn't, then he is Domantas Sabonis. We're pretty close to realizing that's where he is at. Back to back all-star at the moment, so if there is any opportunity to trade him for a disgruntled star, or to scoop up a haul of assets, then we need to be all over it. The only way we should keep him is if absolutely nobody wants him.... in which case we then try and develop those aspects you talked about.
About where I'm at. The deal needs to make sense, he has real value, so you don't get rid of him just to get rid of him, but you need to be willing if the return is strong enough. Maybe a team will be more desperate at the trade deadline though.
he's also becoming an inefficient passer. Only 1.5 assists per turnover I think his main problem is his over confidence. being and all star reserve twice has gotten into him he's talented for sure ut he needs to put in the work. In practice and in games. h'es like the jalen brunson of centers. he's shorter than most centers and unathletic. but he needs to work twice as hard as JB if we wants to be one of the best centers. he's missing shots and fumbling the ball because he looks like he'e not practicing or not even trying in games. as if he thinks he's naturally talented and became an all star so he doesn't bother any more
To inform you practices are limited during the season, the games are more than Cardio for the boys. Offseason workout is key. I think he works extra hard for the National team, then of course the season spans over 6 months, he is naturally getting gassed and mentally fatigued. The next step is to withdraw from much of FIBA Ball and we know that is impossible, with Türkiye relying on him so much, plus Pride and Arrogance.
I agree with most of this. One of the problems is Sengun creating shots for KD is next to impossible, because of the way KD wants to play. He does not move without the ball and wants to create 2 point shots in ISO. If he would move without the ball and be willing to be more of a spot up 3 pt shooter, the whole offense would work better. KD is a bad fit for this team. Sengun and Amen can co-exist if one develops a 3 point shot. Sengun, Reed, and KD will never form a decent defensive team, so that delegates Reed to the bench as long as both Sengun and KD are starters. Other than Ime, KD is the most important to move on from. Substitute KD for a good creator with a 3 point shot at SG and you at least have a path to being a decent offensive team in the future.
Agreed. It would be a mistake to trade Sengun now unless we get a very very great trade. Despite the fans panicking it would be selling at a low.
I 100% disagree, he is not a SUPERSTAR player, he is a valuable role player, and he doesn't fit a team that runs and shoots 3s, you have to build completely around him and still he isn't good enough to be that anchor. He is a very good player, a Luis Scola type - I reserve the right to change my mind if he comes in shooting 38% on 3s, but he hasn't and he has been told, he needs a 3pt shot. Either he gets that, or he is traded for an upgrade and/or picks. DD
KD was 2nd on the team in points, spotting up and by far the most efficient. Reed, and Holiday were the only ones with an eFG% over 60% besides Durant. JSJ was a distant 4th around 54%, but lead in spot up scoring. Sengun's main offensive problem from a scoring efficiency standpoint is Amen. Defensively, mostly agree. Sengun needs the PF and SF to be ready with scram switching and pre-switching. Durant just isn't that guy any more. I can't see Reed and Sengun forming a solid defense with or without KD. The Rockets need either one of Sengun and Amen able to shoot 3s or need to move one of them. With Reed and Sengun having defensive issues, it seems like Sengun is the obvious choice, but could also move Reed and Amen. I do want to see Sengun with 4 shooters around him before making the call to trade him.
Totally agree. I think there are several factors coming into play here. Sengun has the big head. He's a product of our lousy organization and crappy coaches. A ball hog and a jack...but, to be fair, he hasn't been placed in a position to succeed. Put him on the right team. Use him correctly and he will blossom...not with glorified pick up ball on O. Alperen needs his head screwed on straight...fockassed. Surround him with shooters, and put a shotblocker next to.him. Run a serious offense. Have him commit to getting that J... Make him accountable too. Less free rein. Discipline, Discipline, Discipline... Also, playing so much in the offseason and then the ankle injury. Like KD, I think he needs to be dealt for a haul to the right team.
