I can’t go through all pages of this. The only thing I can say in my opinion, is that we aren’t in a position to make rash decisions due to a closing title window. If we had multiple stars in their lower 30’s, and I mean true stars, then I’d be fine shipping off some of the younger guys if it got us a title, including Reed. As of now, I think there’s only two real options. You keep this young core together for another year -at least-, and hope that some of them show something that’s been hiding in a broken system. Or, you pick a few of your favorites, and trade the rest to basically restart the rebuild with a few solid young pieces already, trade into the 2026 draft if you believe there’s franchise changing players, and also use the 2027 pick to boost that (unless it’s used to get a high 2026 pick) The last and absolute last thing I want the team to do is trade Sengun/another young piece for Giannis. If those guys are to be traded, it needs to be for players that can fit in a shorter rebuild, not chase a WCF exit. (same post from another thread, just felt it fit both)
What's going to counter Wemby is health and time. Dudes that big seldom have long careers and he's had multiple health issues already - missed a ton of games. We may have 5-6 more years of him playing at a high level. If championships are your goal, I think you start accumulating assets for a reset that culminates beyond that timeline. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to tank, you don't want to finish in the bottom 3 anyway. You simply need to identify which future drafts are good and bad and accumulate multiple picks in those good drafts & don't put a heck of a lot of emphasis on winning right now. Imagine a draft like this current one where you may have several early picks in it. That's the new reset button.
What could Boston give up without Tatum and Brown to match Giannis? don’t feel like looking salary’s.
Giannis: $58.4M Tatum: $58.4M Brown: $57M White: $30.3M Hauser: $10.8M Pritchard: $7.7M Everyone else: $2.1M to $2.9M Bam: $49.5M Herro: $33M Wiggins: $30.1M (PO has to opt into) Jovic: $16.2M Mitchell: $12.4M Jaquez: $5.9M Ware: $4.6M Jaku: $3.8M Everyone else: $2.2M to $2.5M P.S.: Ware is the new Mo Bamba on CF
Okay but admit there isn't a better player build you could come up with for this team. Amen needs a stretch 5, Ware shot .395% on 5 attempts from 3 per 36 this year (2 made 3's per 36) Reed needs a rim protector, Ware is a shot blocker (1.8 per36) with a low foul rate (2.5 per36). He's 6'11.75 barefoot with 9'4.5 standing reach and wingspan. Is mobile and a good jumper. Ime wants elite rebounding, Ware averaged 14.7 rebounds per 36, with nearly 4.6 of them being offensive rebounds. His 18ppg per 36, EFG was 60%, shoots over 70% at the rim, only 1.3 TO per 36. Just turned 22 last month. Played 77 games seems relatively durable. Is he inconsistent? Does he have a questionable motor? Has he only gotten 20mpg? Yes, if he didn't, he wouldn't be attainable. Maybe he's Bamba (Although I'd argue he's already better than Mo ever was) , or maybe he's an elite 5 that fits this team like a glove that might be available in a 3 team deal soon. We're going to have to find a unicorn 5 if we expect to build around Amen.
The thing people don't realize about Ware though is that he is very much a work-in-progress on defense. Yes, he blocks shots, but he has issues with ball-watching, being out of position, having bad footwork, or guys just bullying him to get to the rim. He may correct these issues, but it's not just Bam being a great player that has kept him on the bench on a mediocre Miami team. The two could play together, both of them can switch onto forwards and both of them can shoot. Ware is also not a guy who has much in his offensive bag beyond lobs/dunks and threes right now. He has no midrange game to speak of and has poor efficiency from 3-10ft. I agree he'd be a great fit on this team and we should try to get him if we can, but I do think we should be clear-eyed about the player he actually is right now. I'm on the fence about whether I'd even give up Sengun in a Ware + expiring (Herro, Wiggins) type of deal right now unless we're also getting first round draft assets back; everything Ware gives us in spacing the floor and protecting the rim, we lose in some other area by giving up Sengun (passing, shot creation), and Sengun has shown more glimmers of hope that he could become a #1 option than Ware likely ever will. My overall point being, we should be wary of thinking of Ware as the "one player fixes all" for this team. The only guys out there who fit that description are top 10 players in the NBA, and Ware is very, very far from being that.
To MIA Giannis FVV To MIL Kasparas Herro Capela DFS Houston 2029 First MIA 2027 FRP and Future FRP To HOU Ware Jovic Wiggins (re-signs) Sengun/Ware/Adams Smith/Jovic Durant/Eason Wiggins/Okogie Amen/Reed
Well said but I prefer to think of it like this. From what we know about Sengun, he does not have the physical tools to ever matchup with Wemby and as we've seen during these playoffs, Sengun's skill level is no where near Wemby's, as well. Whereas, as you've pointed out, Ware has the physical makeup and skill level, however he lacks court awareness and footwork around the basket. To me, Ware's weak points are problems that can be resolved with hard work and the right coaching. Sengun is not getting better athletically, he's not going to grow 3 - 4 inches during the offseason....he's not. Which is why I would take Ware.
Start giving up young players to Knicks, Spurs, Thunder, you might get them back as Champs. Always liked the Loan system in other sports, where you just get them back after the loan deal ended.
