    Jason Kidd is out as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks after five seasons in what the team described as a mutual decision Tuesday evening. Kidd has four years and more than $40 million remaining on his contract, sources told ESPN.

    The timeline
    • Kidd & Nico Harrison came in together at the same time.
    • Nico traded Luka
    • Owner Patrick Dumont fires Nico
    • Before Masai was hired, Kidd asked Dumont if he can be GM. (like his attempt at Nets and Bucks)
    • Dumont says NO.
    • Dumont hires Ujiri after a season goes by.
    • Ujiri hires front office Mike Schmidt and searches for head coach.
    • Ujiri fires Kidd. -- Says mutually parting, but Kidd is fired. Ujiri doesn't want Kidd gunning for his job.
    • Kidd - leaves with $40m severance package. They rather pay him to go away than keep him.
    Dumont washes away the GM/coach who were there during Luka trade. Dumont did sign off on deal, but he can't fire himself. ;)

    Heck no, Kidd just wanted a bigger role and he didn't get it, so then he wanted out so eventually he can sucker an organization to give him a larger role.

    Every team should fire their coach every 5 years or before.

    Coaches are marginal contributors in the NBA - the best coaches are the ones with the best players.

    I don't doubt that for a year or 2 or 3 a coach has a personality style or a scheme that helps a player succeed when it hits at the right time - but it's very fleeting and that effect wears out over time. I also don't doubt the wrong coach can put a ceiling on his guys.

    Like getting rid of McFail and his low post bs with Dwight and general annoying manner helped unlock Harden, Kerr helped implement the GS dynasty

    But after that, you could've replaced Steve Kerr with Mike Brown or whatever in 2016 and he would've known enough to run Steph off screens to score points.

    We just need to get over the cult of the coach, the NBA ain't youth sports.

    Kidd would be great for the Rockets, but Ime is etched in Stone (see what I did there) for at least next year.
