Unless the can get Darius Acuff or Kingston Flemmings its not worth it. They might have a shot at Christian Anderson at the end of the first possibly top of the second round, unless his athleticism blows up the combine. Braden Smith is the second round might be a lock
And even if you had a shot at Darius Acuff or Kingston Flemings, you'd probably have to part with known quantities and a ransom to get into the lottery that high in this draft. So now you're trading known quantities trying to "win now" and praying whoever you draft is even ready to contribute. We've seen that isn't the case most of the time - it takes a year or two... or three... or twelve... or never. Also, if you draft a PG, I'm guessing you're trading away somebody like Reed because you know his playing time will probably be cut. If you keep him on the team, his trade value is probably hit. I haven't looked at OKC's roster, but it'll be interesting to see where they land in the lottery (as in, "will they miraculously be top-4")? Or would they entertain trading a #12'ish pick. They also have a #17 pick. Or will they try to move up a few spots (very few, probably) using both? I say this because that roster is so stacked, they may be kicking the can down the road for a while. But I haven't kept up with their future picks or their roster that much (like Nikola Topic is still out there). Or just draft a low body tone European - you know there's a good chance they can hoop. lol.
Real question, if Ime is referencing getting a backup PG in the exit interview, and if we're keeping Fred and expecting him to play a huge role next year, what exactly is the plan with Reed? We just casually need a SG+ sized true PG who's both a good enough defender to play with Reed and a good enough shooter to play with Amen... is... that all?
I like the idea of monitoring okc, as long as they don't trade Brooklyn's 2027 pick (could be top 3), they have a lot of ammo to make a move. I dont think drafting a pg means moving Reed because he's not a pg, he can be a very good spark off the bench, the rockets need to add 2 pgs to this team
Fred is staying but coming off an acl i doubt he starts the season playing more than 24 minutes a game and he's going to be a step off from being out for an entire year, plus Ime will give him rest games, he was getting them before the acl, they need to add 2 pgs
KD for the OKC lottery pick in this upcoming draft should be the target under a new GM and a new head coach. They should make all the decisions.
Offer some to all of the young Rockets guys to different teams, get two of the top 5 picks and reload. If Ime doesn't want to because it would hurt his head coaching W/L record, he could go.
Amen and Bari should be on the table, otherwise those teams with a top 5 pick would not do it. Have to give up perceived good stuff to get potential good stuff.
Bari and Amen (and Tari) were the only ones that showed dawg mentality during the series and you want to trade them lol
Yes, yes, and yes. The Rockets need young talent to fill out their roster more than most nba teams. This roster is extremely shallow, and there is very little upside with anyone outside Amen, and Reed. That being said, Stone has whiffed on pick after pick with almost all of this picks outside the top 5 (where most years you cannot miss). TyTy, Cam, Christopher, etc…. Too many wasted picks. I know that Stone tries hard to prove his genius by trying to make guys like Nix into nba players, but I’d rather have a GM that would get out of the way of his ego and just make good draft picks instead of trying to prove how Clairvoyant he is with trash g-league talent.
