He is not paid as a politician or lawyer that rely on bending the truth......

People should not be in confusion of what he was conveying, one big part of his job is to make his idea clear to the PUBLIC!

That includes not playing mind games and Treat fans as 1st Graders and explain his ideas in simpler terms.

I don't think he is dumb, he knew exactly what he was doing when he vaguely spoke 'Not Our Year'.....he is merely playing dumb now.

He wanted us to lower our expectations like every year and celebrate his 'Greatness in trades'.

I think this is where you really showed that your argument is overly stubborn. Most GM’s don’t last 9 years in their jobs in general, including the ones that make trades for multiple future picks.

This is not reasonable in any sense of the word. Most GM’s last 4-5 years. You can definitely gauge in the first 5 years whether that trade is going well. You’ve drafted/acquired most of the key assets and can make a rough assessment of the value of the remaining assets.

You don’t get 9 years of salary just to see whether you’re good at your job. You would get laughed at if you said in an interview you need 9 years before you can be judged.

Plus, he was behind the worst trade in Rockets history - trading CP3 for Westbrook and we’re the ones who gave up multiple picks in the trade. That was universally recognized as terrible at the time and it remains so today.

I don’t agree with this narrative. He didn’t beat the Warriors and you can’t use injuries as an excuse much like how many of you criticize Stone for talking about injuries. We missed 27 3’s and a lot of that is due to our players being 1 dimensional players who can’t beat anyone off the dribble.

Morey simply didn’t provide this team dynamic enough players to win either thru draft or free agency due to money tied up in stars and trading away all our assets, which hampered this team in the long run. Morey wasn’t trustworthy either and a liar as it’s shown.

For who? They needed to match 13 mil. Bulls likely weren’t taking back Tate or Holliday since they asked for Sheppard or Eason. And they ultimately got Sexton who’s a borderline starter and decent scorer.

As I said people see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. The spin, misinformation, and disinformation on this site is worse than the tabloids sometimes.

Yeah I don’t get it. The guy left this organization in shambles and Stone had to pick up the pieces. And he built this team back into contention. That’s admirable.

Where did you get the info Stone made that deal? Morey was the GM and Fertita wanted Westbrook.

Winning a championship is hard. I think Morey did a good job up until the Westbrook trade. One can argue about whether he was forced to do it or not, but I think it is clear he jumped ship as the Rockets were a dying team with little draft capital at the end.

Whether you like Morey or not…the logic of “if Morey is so good why are the sixers worse than the rockets” is one of the dumber arguments you can make on the anti Morey side….

If LeBron is the 2nd best player ever….why is he not even a top 20 player right now? Dumb logic

If Spoelstra is one of if not THE best coaches in the league why does he not have the best record right now? Dumb logic

Even the ESPN journalist Stone referred to said they would evaluate the trade in 2027. That's a full six years after the trade was completed, but at least we'd know where all of Brooklyn's picks landed and who we selected.

Judging the trade now by making a rough assessment of who we've drafted and the value of the remaining picks is extremely premature, IMO. And it goes both ways because even if Stone somehow got the #1 pick from Brooklyn in 2026 and 2027 there's always the possibility that he would draft a bust in both years. We evaluate draft picks based on how they turn out and not where they were selected, do we not? I'm not even ready to grade the 2024 draft yet and I like Reed Sheppard.

Most GM's do not last only 4-5 years. Look around the league and the current running tenure is six years. And that includes Toronto and Phoenix who just hired new GMs after 12 and 7 year tenures with their prior GMs. And it only includes the current five and six year tenures for Danny Ainge and Daryl Morey, who had 19 and 13 years with their prior teams respectively. Careers for executives are not that short. That's another thing that bugs me about CF, accusing Stone of being extremely fearful for his job when nothing he or Tilman have said or done suggests that. Stone's on the hot seat, but refuses to make win now moves because he's so scared of being held accountable? Yet, he'll trade for KD and put deep playoff expectations on the team? Even the narrative contradicts itself.

Also, I have no idea why you credit Stone with the Westbrook trade. Stone was not the GM at the time and even Fertitta said he pushed that through when the basketball ops team did not want to, so I hesitate to even credit Morey with trade.

This is just weird petty nonsense that a lot of y'all just keep making up because you don't like Stone.

Seriously.... what GMs are going out there on record admitting bad signings? We went from tanking to a top 4 in the West in a couple of seasons, seems like a pretty overall good track record.

A lot of y'all who dislike Stone, just make up these weird emotional arguments. It's really pathetic.

And we've gone from tanking to a top 4/5 team in the West during that time..... Doesn't mean Stone is a top 10 GM but to just dismiss that success is just petty or ignorant. You seem to have a crazy high bar for success.

Just stop with the bolded, that was an owner led move and to suggest otherwise is just lying.

Speaking as someone who just divorced a narcissist - i agree with that statement...

but there is also lawyer-speak... they routinely blow things out of proportion that serve to benefit their client - while diminishing aspects which do not...

i'm sure that there are a great many parallels between narcissists and lawyers and politicians - and prob a great amount of crossover between all 3 groups... have u ever noticed how many presidential candidates have law degrees? lol

as Shakespere wrote... "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers,"

and Don Henley's follow-up lyric: "The more I think about it, Old Billy was right - Let’s kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight".

imo most lawyers are scummy people - or rather their profession dictates a level of scumminess... all about liabilities and winning the case...

A scorpion wants to cross a river but cannot swim, so it asks a frog to carry it across. The frog hesitates, afraid that the scorpion might sting it, but the scorpion promises not to, pointing out that it would drown if it killed the frog in the middle of the river. The frog considers this argument sensible and agrees to transport the scorpion. Midway across the river, the scorpion stings the frog anyway, dooming them both. The dying frog asks the scorpion why it stung despite knowing the consequence, to which the scorpion replies: "I am sorry, but I couldn't help myself. It's my character."

Based on the Fire Stone mentality of fans, I don't think he's doing things in a manner to save his job and avoid blame. Most GMs trying to save their jobs make short-term moves that involve trading a lot of long-term value for short-term value. Stone has used Bird rights, and the NT-MLE, but those are short term assets. Trading for Durant is the only big long term to short term move Stone has made. Even then, I think the Rockets got Durant on a good trade.

Overall, Stone has been much more towards increasing long-term value over short-term with the exception of the 2025 offseason. 2026 trade deadline, Stone sat out trying for a quick fix to preserve long term assets.

Ime is definitely a Narcissist. I don’t really see it with Stone. He has just surrendered his role with roster construction to Ime. Stone does what he is comfortable with, managing the cap and constructing contracts. GM’s will never fall on their sword. For one thing, it would hurt their bargaining position. Good coaches, however, will recognize and admit when they make mistakes and do what it takes to correct them. Not once, has Ime admitted to screwing up. It’s why the whole “hire an offensive assistant stuff is useless. Ime will never subjugate himself to the will of others, because his mental disorder makes him believe his is infallible.

Stone said he wasn't going to make moves just for the sake of it. Trading future assets for players we do not have control over would have been short sighted. Coby White and Dosunmu are unrestricted free agents this summer. I much prefer Dosunmu, but he commanded five 2nd round picks and Rob Dillingham. He would not have been free, nor was re-signing him guaranteed. I'm not even 100% sure Minnesota will be able to re-sign him if a team like Brooklyn or Atlanta throws the bag at him.

And people are in love with Coby White, some saying we should have included Tari in a trade. Even if White is the superior player to Tari, he plays a very similar role to Reed. So we'd lose a wing defender for someone who would cut into Reed's development and then give him the bag in the summer. Great.

That's facts. No truer words have ever been spoken on the interwebz.

I don't blame Stone for taking a chance on KPJ - He had / has talent on a team that might have had 3 legit NBA players on it and he's back in the league producing.

Even his contract extension had language that would protect the team from any antics on or off the court, which turned out to be necessary.

KPJ was his own worst enemy but considering the cost (prior to the extension) and the fact that the team was pretty much talentless and the potential for KPJ to work out, it was worth taking a chance - Can't control the fact that KPJ destroyed himself.

Had KPJ not had a meltdown the worst that could have happened is Stone flips him for assets.

None of us want that guy back in the building but we could damn sure use someone on this team with his skillset. Damn, he was 520/408/871 last year .... with a 2.29 assist to turnover ratio.
