What an insane amount of assets they would get for him.
The Astros are going nowhere this year with him.
For that matter trading hunter brown and hader.

I am so ready for the new era to start. The Astros have so many holes right now that altive can't fix anymore.

Trading yordan now before he gets hurt would be a forward thinking move.

    What did they get for:

    Roy Oswalt
    Hunter Pence
    Lance Berkman
    Brad Lidge

Was there one good player? Who was good enough for an extension?

Prospects are complete gamble. Even the best ones have less than 50% hit rate.

The Marlins got 2 top 10 Prospects for Miguel Cabrera. Think they would do that deal again?

I still think the Texans should trade Will Anderson, Derek Stingley Jr., and Demeco Ryans. Just think about all the draft picks.

But how much return do want from him? How many prospects? Which ones? What teams have those resources and would want Yordan?

You can't just say "we should trade the best 3 players on the Astros" without providing more.

Also, we have no idea how the upcoming CBA negotiations will go, and if that would dramatically change drafting, FA, and roster constructions.

The return from the Oswalt and Berkman trades are still paying dividends.

I do. I liked getting a proven major leaguer and mlb ready prospect for 1 year of tucker.

I would not have done it for 3 years of Tucker.

This is just hypothetical but would you trade Alvarez for McGonigle + Clark from the tigers? 2 Mlb top 10 prospects

    Not a chance.

It would be a good start, but add 3 more legitimate prospects. One in the 40-60 range and the other 2 75-120 range.

And I probably still don't do that unless Yordan has less than 2 years of control remaining.

    Prospects are just prospects.

At least 2 of those guys would bust and the best of them wouldn't carry Yordan's jock.

McGonigle + Clark + Briceño + Sears + liranzo and you pull the trigger. Throw in someone else from the Stros side if need be

So this idea isn't entirely crazy, however the return for Yordan would be a tough pill to swallow for any team trading for him as well as for the Astros and their fanbase.

Yordan is an MVP candidate when healthy and has been spectacular thus far into this season.

The team trading for Yordan would have to pony up at least (1) major league ready regular player, (2) top 50 prospects and (1-2) low level prospects for the Astros to get real value. There aren't many teams that would want to meet that price.

astros123 proposed a trade with the Tigers that included McGonigle (that's a great trade and would pull the trigger if that were the actual package as I am sold on McGonigle and Clark). Personally I don't see the Tigers trading McGonigle now that they signed him to a long-term extension. Though they do have Max Clark (OF; lefty and top 10 prospect in all of baseball). Briceno is hurt and will be out for a while, but would fit the profile as a 1B/DH, Sears is their top rated pitcher, but will probably be a #3 or #4 starter and may end up in the bullpen. Liranzo is a lottery ticket as he has a lot of swing and miss to his game.

IMO the problem is that the Astros would need to have that type of package (and maybe more) and would need almost all those guys to pan out in order for the trade to be worthwhile.

I trust Dana Brown's ability to find prospects to trade for with his scouting background, but have little faith in his ability to swing a trade as a general manager.
