If he helps Amen there Ant probably passes to the running big man and alpi gets dunked on and people hate on him for that. In any case overanalyzing a play which wasn't even in the clutch is ridiculous.
The situation I'm thinking about is this - what happens if Sengun hangs back as you're suggesting, and shifts over to meet Edwards at the baseline to cut him off. Then Senguns man runs straight down the lane, Edwards hits him with a pass, and he gets an easy wide open dunk. Who's fault would that be? Also Sengun? If that happens is Ime still screaming at Sengun?
That would have been Jabari's fault for ball watching and Amen's for the lazy defense. It's never a bigs fault if they are forced to contest somebody elses f**k up, that's their job and why they are the most important defensive players on the team.
See my post. I think Sengun was surprised that Ant could get to the basket so fast with Amen on him. To be fair to Amen, he probably also thought Sengun would be there right behind him. It's just a poor defensive positioning by both players. Edit: agreed with @harold bingo, Sengun might also be worried about his man running down hill to the basket.
Yeah good point. Now that I think about it a little more this is just the general concept of help defense. You can't just not help because "then who would guard my man?" That's not your problem, that's the next guys problem. So yeah, you're right.
I was going to say same thing for Sengun. Sengun is called a traffic gone when he can’t guard ant or guards in that situation. And gets yelled at when Amen is beat so easily . he is not on the help side. Either amen should force any to the middle or holiday should help and they will try to slide to holiday’s guy. and they are generally terrible in transition defense. It is not a player problem, it is a coaching problem. lastly with the way Udoka is treating Sengun, I can easily say Sengun is doing great. Same for Reed if he gets similar treatment. This is insane, especially in 2026. Times have changed, you can’t coach like that, unless you are pop or spoelstra. You are nobody Udoka.
There really isn't much to discuss. It's pretty obvious that Ime's level of tolerance varies between players and Reed and Sengun have the shortest leash because they don't really fit his system. By "system" i mean his ideal vision of having five NFL guy lineup. Every step they take seems to remind him that they aren't his kind of players. Their mistakes stand out more because they're the kinds of mistakes his preferred players wouldn't make. It's like being an English teacher hearing someone mispronounce a word. You can't help but fixate on that specific error. Reed and Sengun probably shouldn't stay in Houston too long if they care about improving their craft. I also couldn't help but notice that after Ime screamed at Sengun, he started taking fewer 3pt shots and now he can't make them. That's how you sabotage a player by damaging his confidence in front of millions and making him hesitant the next time. Yeah, i really don't like this guy and can't wait for him to finally leave the team.
I always thought and am still in the opinion that Sengun’s success will come through improving in offense. Based on his general skill and talent level, maturity, mental toughness and willingness to put in the work, he has all the tools to get to the next level. He needs a plan, proper coaching and a team play style that fits the plan. Developing a shot and increased playmaking are two obvious ways to go. The rockets are doing neither. I don’t think they have a plan for any of the young guys. And that really sucks.
I'm a spectator so I couldn't care less about defense. Even if I was in charge of any team' success, offense would take priority. Alpi's biggest problem is his offense. Lack of shot making ability forces him operate in paint, which makes the opponent's job easier to stop or slow him down. He can't take over consistently. Current playmaking level is good enough. Gotta score better for that skill to actually work. You can blame the coach or roster fit. Fair enough. Would he be better somewhere else? Likely or maybe. Regardless, he's not 1A option. Besides from the ability, I don't think he has the mental state for it either. Rockets are rolling the dice with him based on what if? Just like Amen. He needs to learn to get a bucket at will.
Good questions. Dont expect a good reply though. Sealclubber has proven they have absolutely no idea whatsoever what they're watching defensively. It's hilarious
That's OK. I enjoy him grilling other people here and there. Wouldn't be fair if I didn't welcome it.
Also if you look at this play Aaron Holiday was there. you guys want sengun to be standing right next to him. Holiday shoulda rotated and taken a charge instead of bailing out.
I believe he will get there once his stamina improves. He needs to run or swim his ass off this summer.
Who are we going to trade him for? Alperen Şengün among 42 centers: Points – 2nd. Assists – 2nd. Steals – 2nd. Rebounds – 12th. And who’s #1 in all four? The best in the NBA: Nikola Jokić. ...
Come on bro, you must know the Rockets' C position has to defend like Olajuwon and shoot 3s like Dirk AND have an assist to turnover ratio of CP3. Sengun is garbage.
