Are the "defensive" subs ever worth it? This dumbass coach is addicted to these late game blunders

It's like he thinks he's playing a sport like soccer or football or rugby where you can go all defense and just block everything the other team does if you're good enough. Basketball doesn't work like that, defenders are always at the disadvantage compared to good offense, never mind playing against the greatest shooter ever with his herd of trained zebras

 

I really am starting to look at him more and more suspiciously, this **** happens too often.

 

He coaches like DeMeco - build a slight lead then hang on for dear life. But DeMeco has to rely on CJ Stroud, whereas Ime has 2 All-Stars, one of whom is one of the greatest scorers of all time.

 

You dont bench Steph Curry because Gp2 is better defensively lol. Eason already 1/9 Udoka still plays him with Tate and Okogie no wonder Rockets collapsed.

 

No, but there's really no reason for Tate to play outside of garbage time. All of his minutes should go to Tari and Okogie.

I will say the Reed/Sengun pairing is still our worst lineup of our top 25 lineups. Both of them in the PnR is a death sentence. So, I don't mind Ime trying stagger them as much as possible.

 

Making shots is the #1 way to get a defense set, stop fast breaks, and stick to assignments.

 

aside from this, after the bari’s and green’s altercation, ime buried Bari on the bench for 5 minutes despite him catching on fire….i have literally questioned this decision in so many of my posts in the game thread during the game. It’s truly mind boggling, and he threw Tate out there and kept tari despite his trashy performance and killing the momentum. It’s either that ime sees things we don’t see, which I ****ing highly doubt, or this guy truly don’t know wtf he is doing and I am unambiguously going with the latter…

 

That first sentence says it all. Works at all positions, do you bench Jokic to play Gobert? Bench Harden for Dyson Daniels? Basketball will always be a score first sport.

 

Exactly. Plus our defenders arent even HOF defenders they are just above average defenders. Curry still scored over Tate and Okogie and Tari with impunity.

 

Yeah it's becoming very evident it's actually only really Amen who can fit the bill as a top tier defender. Tari got a lot of his rep just playing alongside the much superior defender. It's a shame Amen's so one-sided, if he had range outside of 4ft he really would be a huge difference maker.

 

He is still in the mode that he thinks he is Pop and believes in his teacher's mantra 'Defense wins Championships' while modern NBA says:

'Elite Defense and Top 8 Offense plus Elite Execution' Wins Championships!

 

Seen that movie before, build leads, then try to manage it over the finish line.

 

im sure it’s not the latter. One thing to keep in mind players play on rotation. Even if a player catches fire do you leave him in there too long and mess up your rotation? You may not have him in situations or combinations you want with a tired player. What was kerr doing and do you have the pieces to counter the other team’s lineups? There’s a lot that goes into it.

Tate has provided energy and winning plays in several games this season. He deserves a spot in the rotation no doubt.

 

they weren’t the players to give up the lead. Collectively the Rockets gave up the lead. Lots of dumb plays in the final 5 minutes but throughout the game as well

 

But the rule changes in the 2010s have made offense better than defense. So subbing out the offensive player is pointless. Just keep up with the scoring.

This is why talking basketball with you all is fruitless. Of course basketball and baseball are different but the CONCEPT is the same....YOU PLAY THE MATCHUP.

I've seen Curry and Luka get subbed out due to their matchup because of their lack of defensives capabilities or defensive players get subbed out for better offensive players, if the team needs a basket.....EVERY COACH DOES IT

 

You’re an idiot…he’s won 195 games and you’ve won 0 games sitting on your couch eating potato chips. He no longer plays DFS and always has a three point shooter in the game (Reed or Holiday) and we’ve won 6 in a row. The game was almost lost because Alpi took a stupid three and Reed and others made stupid turnovers and Curry went nuts. Coach drew up a good play and we won….period. Now go back to your coaching from the couch with chips moron.
