KD or Sengun (Poll) Which to keep, if you could only keep 1

Wrong and Right. You're wrong because, we have 3 players who likes to operate at or near the paint; KD, Alpi and Amen. Last yr we had 2 players, Amen and Sengun. Jalen was strictly perimeter.

And YES, you are right that KD crowds the floor even though he's an all time scorer. People hated Jalen but because he was a threat most nights, he helped Alpi and Amen. I think if they wouldve traded Alpi instead of Jalen, this would have been a 58 - 60 win team, if Jalen was healthy.

 

Sengun as his trade value is higher.

But realistically, both can go

 

Last night? But who cares - even if you do end up stashing Durant on the corner 3 point man (which is actually the correct place for him given that he is indeed a good weak side help shot blocker, he is basically tied with Smith for second in blocks) - he's still good enough on offense to make it worth it even with the bonehead hero ball turnovers

The false dichotomy you're creating here is almost engineered to make Sengun look good

I've said all I've needed to say on on Sengun, nothing about his last week of positive play has really changed it.

Not very high efficiency offensive player who can't play with Thompson on offense or Reed on defense - a defensive minus at the most important position - easy choice to move on from him IMO

 

I'm not saying the Rockets should get rid of Sengun because of Durant - Durant is old and will be gone at some point soon- I'm saying they should get rid of him became he's too limited to build around period.

It’s fairly obvious to people who actually understand context and how to accurately view information that your CLEARLY pro Sengun and anti-KD which is fine, we all have our opinions (that’s what makes the world work).
But trying to present it as if you’re unbiased is where the gaslighting comes in.

Your facts are worded to slight one player and prop up another.
You didn’t mention that KD is STILL one of the most efficient players in history. And he’s still basically putting up his same numbers with more turnovers which is due with the situation.
You didn’t mention that Alpi is a 2x all-star by barely making it on a technicality this year.

it’s narcissistic because people like to cherry pick stats and scenarios to validate their perspective of what’s right and then claim it as “fact”.

And most people are conditioned to think binary (one thing or side is right and the other side or thing is wrong). Surprisingly in a lot of situations in real life don’t work that way. Life is nuanced and complex.


I’m glad to see most people in this thread realize the TRUE answer is BOTH technically need to go. We can still have our bias towards one player to keep to your point about the presented scenario.

The only issue is when people think they’re view is 100% fact and the ultimate truth when clearly there’s obvious evidence that opinion isn’t and obvious fact.
That’s the scary part about social media and society in general nowdays. But that’s another discussion for another day.

Like I said, good to see most people in here have actual critical thinking skills and not emotional knee jerk “Player A should sucks and is 100% the issue and Player B is great and can do no wrong and it’s a fact and I’m the orbiter of truth because I cherry picked stats and found other peoples good arguments to support my claim”

 

I think replacing KD's spacing is much easier than replacing his shotmaking. To replace his spacing you just plug in any decent-volume 3P shooter you can't help off of. Even, say, Andrew Wiggins (in a hypothetical Miami trade) more or less does it.

What's hard to replace about KD, but we're going to have to do it soon one way or another because he's about to turn 38, is KD's high-efficiency, high-volume scoring ability. Basically the same problem we've always talked about, you need a #1 option.

Anyway, my top priority would be to trade KD. But Sengun may have to be traded soon too because the fit is really bad between him, Amen, and Reed. Maybe if he were to develop the level of 3P shooting he's flashed in the past, you could find some way to make it work, or consider trading Reed instead of Sengun. But it's just been flashes. I might consider giving him one more offseason with outside shooting being his top priority for improvement, and a different head coach (or at least new a "offensive coordinator" type assistant hire). Then trade him at next season's deadline if it doesn't happen.

 

Whenever I see someone talking about efficiency without context as if it’s the ultimate end goal I know they have a shallow understanding of the game. I don’t care about efficiency if you are a good creator. I don’t care about it if you are being aggressive. This team looked better, and continues to look better, when Amen and Sengun are aggressive. I don’t care about Amen’s good efficiency when he’s playing like a scared puppy at points passing on shots he should take to get one of his teammates stuck with a worse shot or scoring like half his points from transitions and cuts. I know for a fact the team looked and performed better when Sengun was more aggressive and taking more shots. Defenses had to be more on their toes against multiple players instead of just loading up on Durant. KD is who he is at this point - great scorer who is not gonna give you volume if your life depended on it. And his efficiency-obsessed game is actually not helping this team make up for the volume lost from trading JG and Dillon’s shot chucking asses.

Not saying efficiency isn’t important - you don’t want a loose cannon out there wasting possession after possession. And sure, Rockets don’t play a high pace game, in the sense that we don’t have a high number of possessions per game. And the rug has been pulled even more from under us with Stevo’s injury. But the answer isn’t guys suddenly optimizing for efficiency (which is super easy to do btw) which would make us even worse. In this team, most shot attempts should still go to KD - who himself starts turning the ball down when he gets his piece scared his efficiency will come down, so he’s part of the problem. But finding a balance between using him as a finisher vs an iso guy and convincing him to play more team ball and accept being a finisher sometimes and maybe take more shots is on Udoka and he’s completely failing at that. I think it’s a uniquely bad combo of two stubborn guys unwilling to change their ways even though it’d benefit the team. That’s why I think the pairing has failed.

People who create flawed polls by removing the actual options people would go for are worse. That's pure intellectual dishonesty, you realise that right? I go for option 3 "Don't build around either of them, they shouldn't be the main focal point. Build around Amen and Reed instead." See how many people vote for that one or simply "neither" and you'll have a poll that actually may hold some value or worth in polling a fanbase on a direction for the team.

Ime lost this team, by not defining roles. Giving into Tari Eason wanting to start and not running any offensive plays to put players in their spots.Ime also not developing one of the guards to play a real setup point guard role is also a failure on his behalf
That Minnesota game had me give up on the team. That momentum swing started with that dumb Jabari 3 with so much time on the shot clock. All the young guys are trying to be hero's, with no team concept. Reed Sheppard coming off a high screen and roll not even looking for the pass or lob. Same thing with Amen.
Kd and Sengun dribbling the ball so high on the court, to where when we do move it, people are catching a grenade. Players not setting good screens, because they dont want to get touched.
Defensively this team gets torched. 3 negative defenders and only one has an excuse, because of his age. The other 2 are just too lazy to play d or even grasp a concept of it. Then you have 2 players that gamble too much and puts our bad defensive players in rotation. I can go on and on.
We'll probably run it back unless Giannis wants to be traded here. Fred van vleet will help, but this team doesn't play for one another. Until that changes, we are doomed.
