Trump's trade policies - as well as cutting off their black market supplier Iran - are hitting them where it hurts. America might finally have a middle class again instead of subsidizing the entire Chinese economy. Those of you who are struggling need to remain patient to see the benefits of this resurgence --- it won't happen overnight. The wheels are in motion.

America leads - the copycats follow.

China Sets Economy’s Growth Target Below 5% for First Time in Decades - The New York Times

Reflecting an economic strategy that is shifting away from export-led growth to a model that leaders hope will be more resilient to external shocks.

“This year is a pretty important year for structural reform,” said Dan Wang, the China director for Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy. Wang said that China was taking advantage of the one-year trade truce with the US to focus on reforming its economy away from export-led growth, while the lower target also reflected a “higher tolerance for unemployment”

China also wants to focus on boosting domestic demand, something that economists say is essential to China’s long-term economic stability. Last year an editorial in state media said that consumption should be managed with the “same rigour” as production, a shift from the traditional focus on heavy industry to stimulate growth.

Chinese exports were up in 2025 vs 2024. They're preparing for war to take over Taiwan soon which is why they're adjusting their growth targets.

"America might have a middle class" lol we just cut a trillion dollars of medicaid, double Healthcare for 25 million Americans, largest cut in food assistance in history alongside having worst job market in decades.

You MAGA are sincerely dumb as hell alongside being brainwashed

Because you lack vision. It's your own lack of ability that creates apathy.

Long term, the only way to stop the hollowing of the American middle class are stronger wages and more opportunities. No one was more responsible for the destruction of that in the past 25 years than China ignoring the WTO and the complete hollowing of the American manufacturing industry.

It's comparing apples to oranges. We're in the midst of a transition period where results don't happen overnight. Read the post above why stopping China's rapid growth, based on gutting the US middle class, is so important. Nobody cares about paying cheaper prices for crappy goods when you don't have stronger wages, upward mobility and a manufacturing base that doesn't guarantee long term safety. Your approach to keeping people poor with no incentive to work, but free everything isn't a sustainable model and never has been.

    America leads, the rest follow.

Oh I’m all for the dunking. It’s just that this is an easy one imo. As much of a threat as China is, I think it’s proven over time that economic collapse of that adversary does not help the US eliminate those threats. In most cases it just makes it more desperate to hit back at the US with much less to lose politically.

I’m not mourning for China but I also am not going to spend more than the next 5 seconds thinking about it the rest of my busy day as well.

for the education of the willfully ignorant one.

ever since Trump 1.0's tariff war, China has accelerated its one-belt-one-road initiative. expanding / adding efficiency to its global supply chain networks, connecting trade between the middle kingdom to all parts of the world, except for the US, India and Japan.

despite the fact that Biden had ban Chinese imports of EVs, with more efficiency global supply chain networks, China has leapfrogged Tesla as the large EV mfg, in particular in the EU.

Amazon attempted to enter the Chinese market, and failed miserably and left quickly. it currently has no presence in China. the same story with Uber/Doordash/Expedia

China has been a copycat but, at the same, it has also come up with a better economic mouse on many occasions,
    EV, Alibaba, DiDi, etc.

2023 was a record high for exports. Do you have any numbers to back your assertions?

    From the article you posted...

But those exports, which produced a record trade surplus of $1.19 trillion in 2025, remain a powerful economic driver.
