Alvarez played 48 games last year and Hader missed 1/3rd of the season and the team had a chance for the playoffs until the last day of the season. And that was with a record number of injuries everywhere else.

Why so much for the timeshare? He literally acknowledged the playing time issue in his quote. What else would you expect him to say? "Yeah, I just want to be a part time player. I don't care about playing!"

You forgot to add that the Astros had the ... worst ... manager ... in ... the ... history ... of ... history.

Because he said he wants to play everyday and be the everyday first baseman.
"Team first, wherever the coach needs me, etc."

More than likely this'll need to be resolved by opening day.
Unless Paredes is open to being moved around.

Of course he does. Every player wants to play every day - and that absolutely should be his goal because it means he's playing well. I'd be a whole lot more concerned if he didn't say that.

And the Astros were held together because Hader played 2/3rds of the season while Yordan was out and still didn't make the playoffs. This year their pitching is worse.

Is it? They lost Framber who imploded and lost 8 of his 10 starts down the stretch, and they added a potential Japanese star and a young guy they coveted and believe they can turn into something good.

Are they really worse than last year when they were starting guys off the scrap heap like Gordon, Gusto, and Alexander? Those guys combined to start 25% of the Astros' games last year and wouldn't project in the top 6 or 7 starters in the Astros' rotation this year.

    From ESPN:

The Philadelphia Phillies released outfielder Nick Castellanos on Thursday after the team was unable to make a deal to trade him. Castellanos then revealed he was benched last season after bringing beer into the dugout during a game.

It appears we are looking at last year through different lenses. My view is this team was held together by their bullpen last year and if Hader is out for over half the season then we will lose more games. This team struggled when not in the lead around the 6th and 7th inning and didn't feel like a good come back team.

As far as pitching, Framber f'd up at the end and cost us a playoff spot, but we don't have anyone that can eat innings right now besides Brown. Our pen will be taxed with more injuries piling up by mid-season. I expect a .500 record at best around July.

I may have missed this part of his quote initially.

Have to disagree about the pitching being worse. This years pitching will be equal to or better than last years.

The infield is going to be a nightmare and Espada is likely the worst manager to manage it.

It really isn’t. As it is, Altuve should not be in the everyday lineup anywhere close to what he’s been at the last 2 years.

He has deserved to bat. There have been much worse hitters.

Too many good players to play. What an awful problem to have.
