He shoots in the 20s from 3

The majority of his points come from open layups and drives from a 7'4" dude drawing everything to himself (a guy that will maybe go down as the most gifted big man in NBA history)

Saying Castle is a jump shot away from being good is like saying Ben Simmons, Rajon Rondo and so many other guys before them are a jumper away from being stars

The guy is good and better than Reed but jesus the koolaid is strong amongst CF

How is his ceiling better if he doesn’t even have a dribble pullup?

Castle impacts the game way more than Reed. When Reed isn't shooting well, he's a liability.
Castle locks down the opponent's best perimeter player.
    Castle attacks the drive better

Which is why castle a the better player right now, I never refuted that

being the better player right now doesn’t even make this guy a borderline AS or better than Amen which is what a lot of people are saying

Castle has a more competent jumper that he isn't shy to take, which keeps defenses somewhat honest. Amen's jumper is completely broken and defenses respect that way less. It makes a difference in how they play defense. Also Castle is much more likely to figure out how to shoot better, compared to Amen

Ive been saying this for a while now. Alpi put arch on his shot yesterday. I was watching his shot and the arch was little more higher on his jumpshot yesterday. Amen needs to do the same thing. Unfortunately we wont see it that much this season, but this offseason, I guarantee he works on it.

Him being a terrible shooter who shoots a lot is why the spurs offense is so much better when he sits. The spurs offense is 3.5 better without him, the rockets offense is almost 6 points worse when amen sits.

I never said he’s a jump shot away from being good. I said he already is s good player. I also said he is on a trajectory to be a great player by year 4.

He already has a jumpshot. He doesn’t use it often but it’s effective and he’s better than Amen.

    His overall jumpshot % (including 3s) is .364 compared to Amen’s .319

    He is shooting from 10 < 16 ft is .442 to Amen’s .358.

    10-14 ft 46% to Amen’s 37%

    Mid range 45% to Amen’s 26.7%

    pullup J 33% to Amen’s 28%

    driving layup 44% to Amen’s 40%

As I said marginally better but he has the tools and skillset Amen doesn’t have and has yet to develop. There’s a difference between being able to do a move smoothly or proficiently and not being able to finish than not having the ability to do it at all. Castle has the capability not execution on a few things but Amen doesn’t even have the capability to perform these moves or attempt certain shots right now.

they don’t watch spurs games and it shows.Castle has the same leash as jabari smith jr on that team.

I don’t know why some of you obsess over this guy’s hair so much. Who cares? That’s never the topic of my discussion. The topic is whether he is a better player than Thompson and Sheppard.

Is he a better player than sheppard? Absolutely. However, it’s worth mentioning that:
    1. He’s given a leash like Jabari Smith Jr
    2. He’s very turnover prone
    3. He was given the keys to the franchise year 1 where he got consistent minutes by a real NBA coach. Sheppard on the other hand was sidelined for jalen green development.

Not to mention, Houston’s development staff is the worst itl. Hardly any players aside from amen and tari (that too marginally) have developed anything and all still have the same flaws from when they were drafted. All the rockets players would certainly look different if given the spurs development staff rather than ours.

If that's so important, you should love Reed because his dribble pull up is miles better than Castle's.

Granted it was a G-League game, but Reed putting up 50 points against professionals last year was still impressive. It's not like he doesn't have it in him when he gets hot.

For all intents and purposes this is Reed's rookie season, or at least that's what I tell myself. Right now he's getting close to being unplayable with his sub 25% from 3 over his last 10 games.

Too bad for Reed he doesn’t have explosion off the dribble which both Amen and Castle have. And the topic was comparing Amen and Castle. Stick to the topic please. Reed was not part of this discussion.

Amen might if he was a spur since Wemby is a stretch 5. This opens up the game entirely. Not to mention they have playmakers all over the floor.

This narrative is simply dishonest and untrue. He played in 52 games and started 3 last year, and18 or more minutes in 9 games. Had 2 summer leagues and 2 pre seasons and an off season to train. Received training, development, and guidance from coaches, players, trainers throughout the course of a full NBA season. By no means is he a rookie.
