If teams are running him off the 3PT line aggressively, it's already a win. Even if he has a bad shooting night, all the players on the floor who can drive to the basket have benefitted. Reed went 1 of 4 on 3's. If he made ONE one those misses he'd be shooting 50%. If he made the next 3pt shot, he'd be shooting 40%. At the end of the day you're talking about 3 points. You're an idiot if you don't understand that his gravity (getting run off the line) generates more than 3 points for the slashers/drivers on the team. Spacing doesn't rely on your shooting within a game, it relies on your reputation as a shooter. If you look at the court from a top-down view, you will clearly see that Reed's presence on the court changes the other team's defensive shape from a crowd in the paint into a bunch of defenders spread across the court who are scrambling to be in position. Start Reed instead of Jabari. We need our 3 best shooters out there (Durant/Tari/Sheppard) around Amen and Sengun. We need the 2 closest things we have to a PG on the floor together (Reed and Amen). We need our 2 best defenders out there together (Tari and Amen). We need Jabari as a supersub PF/C where he can take more risks with shot blocking and driving. Heed the warning: we are a garbage halfcourt team offensively and while we can hide that with transition/rebounds now, in the playoffs every team whether they like it or not will play way more halfcourt offense. That's standard playoff basketball. Your halfcourt offense becomes more frequent and important to your shot making. Don't let these buffoons on the staff convince you that we can force the issue with rebounds, it will not work (again).
If he was all that he wouldnt be the only negative in the plus minus among the starters. I know plus minus per game can be misleading but when you are the only negative and the other starters are double digit positive well the stats dont lie. Lets not play the what if game cuz he didnt shoot 2/5 or 3/6, he shot 1/4. Overall Reed is now shooting 38% which is not very reliable anymore. Starting Reed over Jabari is extremely idiotic as if you look at the 5 man lineups of the 7 worst lineups 4 of them have Reed in it (with 30 mins or more). This is half a season sample size already not exactly something to scoff at: https://www.nba.com/stats/lineups/a...610612745&dir=A&slug=advanced&sort=NET_RATING Reed had an amazing 17 games but then fell down to earth whether thats a mix of getting scouted or his own mental problems. Right now shooting is at 38% from 3 which while decent is just an above average shooting and not anything elite or generational.
Here we go with you again posting a million times about Sheppard. Just an fyi Reed has a better +\- than Jabari Eason and Sengun. Amen and Durant are higher but have also played more minutes. But let’s just talk about a one game sample size of it to make a point. I’m sure when he would lead the team in a particular game in the past you dismissed in posts here. why?? Well because for well over a year you have a legit complex about Reed and post negative about the player.
When he sucks he sucks what do you want me to do? I gave him props when he played great and even apologized now he is sucking again. The problem with you is you are never objective no matter how Reed plays you just wanna suck his dick no matter what. At least with me I can change my mind and admit I am wrong what about you? Just hungry for Reeds nuts no matter what and attack everyone who dares criticize him. IIRC Reed has now made just 6 of his last 45 shots or something like that. But of course the Reed worshipper you are nothings wrong la la la la. Reed the superstar just need more PT Ime holding him back amirite. Next year will still be his rookie year he is still in college now just gracing Rockets with his presence.
He’s certainly going through a bad shooting slump. Teams adjusted to him and he’s struggling with that. Hopefully he can counter adjust. Cherry picking games from players of the same draft? Aite.
Nah the difference between me with you is I’m not a negative repeating spammer of posts about a solitary player on the board. That was adamant that he would never do anything in the nba. Where does it say in a post of mine that he is not playing bad. I just think you’re annoying and I can express that all I want. The player is still on the end of his rookie year minutes wise. I expect him to continue and improve. Where as you said he never would. You’re just annoying AF. You also post volume and volumes of posts. And much more often when he is playing bad than when he is playing well. Because as I said you’re NEGATIVE. Be a fan like that though. I can’t stop you. And you can’t stop me from calling it out accordingly. So keep whining.
I think he’s wrong about the game yesterday, if Reed has a string of bad +\- statistically it has a lot more meaning and hard to refute but Roslolian after being too tough on Sheppard has been one of the few posters since I’ve been on this board to straight up be like “I was flat out wrong”. I don’t think he’s a hater Let’s be honest Reed deserves a ton of criticism for his timid play. I do think it’s a slump but he definitely has some signs of being on the basketball “spectrum”
I think Reed will go on to have a really good career, but Castle should have been the pick. 40–12-12 last night. Youngest player to do that in nba history. Reed has a long way to go.
He’s a negative on D overall imo, but the degree to which he’s a negative is vastly vastly overstated and the numbers/rating over the course of this season back it up I have an issue with his timid offense, picking up his dribble etc. We have so many non shooting defensive forwards on this team that not playing Sheppard because of his D isn’t an option. You bench him and give guys like JD burn if he plays like a puss
Report from the Thunder game: I'll keep this short. Watched the game but didn't take extensive notes. I'd rate Reed's defensive performance a B, based on not reaching the level of space-taking and footwork he achieved in his A games. Also on getting beaten at least a couple of times, though the variation was huge: The game started with him getting left in the dust by Wallace (off ball for a layup) when he stepped up to try to get around a screen and Wallace went to the basket instead. But then Reed also had some nice plays, including a stolen pass for a dunk and that clutch defense on Holmgren at the end. Our 6-foot guy got stuck on their 7-footer under the basket and got the TO. Was gonna give him a B-, but I'll upgrade him to a B for that one. Offensively, I cringed at his turnovers. At least 2 really dumb ones I can recall. (And, yes, our other guys also threw some dumb passes — the one Clint served up to Caruso is my nominee for dumbest Rockets pass of the year — but we shouldn't cut our PG any slack for being no worse at this than his teammates.) I assume this is part of why Ime pulled him a couple of times and gave the ball to JD instead. I'm still scratching my head over the divergence between Reed's performance inside vs. outside the arc. The 3's are still not falling, and while I'm glad it's mainly just a matter of getting the distance right, it's been going on too long to write off. Have any of you noticed whether opponents are giving him more space than they used to? Then we'll know he's losing his credibility as a 3 threat. Inside the arc, it's a different story. He got the start and used it. For those of us who complained about his timidity, he's clearly working on that. I could swear he even leaned into Wallace a couple of times to take space. And the box score in this game (as well as the eye test) supports the bet that as Reed gets more playing time to work on his inside jumpers and floaters and layups, his scoring percentage will go up.
Either him or Amen should start. Being a spacer theres def more room for everyone else to operate than with Amen, teams can put the center on Amen and then let his man double everyone else and they cant do that with Reed.
