I think this greatly overstates Amen’s abilities - he’s really not that great 1-1 or in transition. And he’s significantly smaller than Giannis as well.

I don't think he's as good as Giannis, for the reason you stated; he's four inches shorter, and not as strong (yet?). I don't see him being a 30ppg guy without a jump shot for that reason.

I disagree about him not being great 1-on-1 or in transition. He can break down most players, most of the time, with his quickness and fluidity if they don't have help. His handles, while still not as tight as they could be, are also better than some posters give him credit for.

Personally, I think even if he never learns to shoot he can still be something like a 21, 8, and 8 guy at his peak.

If he does learn to shoot he will be a top 5 player.

We traded away the guy who had the best potential of becoming a star, Jalen Green.

Kinda disappointed certain posters haven't made personal attacks on you anti- Sengunatics for the blasphemous replies... But to answer the question... Absolutely for laughs

Yeah, the Rockets have theoretically more talent then last year but are probably worse overall

    Because fit matters.

For all their faults Dillon and Jalen were better fits for Thompson and Sengun than Durant and ... Okogie or whatever the theoretical replacement for Brooks was.

We should have built it around Cam Whitmore.

Amen is the new fools gold after Jalen. Give me one example of a player that wasn’t respected at all in their first 3 years by opposing teams, has a total of one offensive move in his bag, and has no creation juice and has to be fed easy buckets from cuts and in transition for most of his points turn into a #1 option. The hype is ridiculous and seeks of desperation to be honest.

This rebuild is pretty much over. Fred and Udoka being BFFs, and bringing KD in when the guys weren’t ready are what lit the fuse. The final nails in the coffin will be trading Sengun and giving Amen a max. Rockets will try to flip the rest of the young guys for talent over and over every year they don’t win with an aging Fred and KD and maybe Giannis (unlikely for Rockets imo) and will keep telling the fanbase through Will and Brad it was the best thing to do, they just had bad luck in the lottery, they tried their best, blah blah while they basically made the wrong decision at every turn. I wish they just didn’t waste any of the young guys time anymore and hit the reset button already.

All true but he is really good! If he can handle player relations he will be successful in the nba.

At this point neither of Sengun or Amen looks good to build around. You also need a coach who can build around a player, to utilize a player’s strengths. That is not ime either. So who knows, even if one or both of them are worth building around, we’ll never know unless they are traded or ime is replaced.

Sengun just isn’t a franchise guy to me. Skillful but soft and cry’s a lot IMO and I don’t think I want to pay his extension the next 5 years

I would see how far up into the draft we could trade him for. Said this a bunch already but I would be looking at Sabonis and Kings 2026 pick. Sabonis only has 2yr left and would be off books with KD

Here's my problem with all this -

    1) when he gets stopped on the way to the basket, he's not picking out the open man very often, he just gets turned back.

    2) his assists don't come from him breaking down the defense off the dribble. They are really just in the flow of the offense.

    3) the shooting, it really hasn't improved from day 1.

I think at this point, 3 years in, what you see is what you get.

He's a great piece to have but I don't see him as a #1 or #2 at all, more like an inverted Ariza, your 3rd or 4th option on a really good team.

I can't see 21,8,8 when most of the makes come within 3 feet of the basket. You aren't always going to get that many looks at the rim, especially when you rely upon someone else to create many of those looks in the half court.
Yes, he'll have nights of 21,8,8 and he'll have nights of 8,6,2 with the average somewhere in the middle.

I do agree - IF he develops a 3 ball and or a mid range pull up jumper off the dribble, he's a top 5-10 player. But neither of those things look to be happening any time soon.

100% yes. Bring in a Princeton offense coach and the Rockets will accel. We go nowhere as long as Ime is running the show.

    As for Sengun-

I hate to see him catch the ball outside the 3 point line and "go to work". Defenders know to back off and invite the 3 ball or just wait for him to attack with the spin move.
3 straight possessions against Boston, 3 straight turnovers. They all looked the same - catch the ball way out high, defender backs up, he turns his back to the defender, poke check turnover.

Give him the ball in the high or low post or put him in the pick and roll as the roll man where he can get downhill ... and his vision can create open looks for others.

Honestly, I don't think this group could run the Princeton. They don't appear to have the collective IQ ....

I really like the future for this team because you have a ton of good young players but they don’t really all fit together just yet and maybe never will. However the hold enough value to be able to make trades to mold your team around the talent you want to build around.

I love watching Sengun play but I just feel like in this era he’s just such a difficult player to build around.

If I was in Stone’s shoes I would be more inclined to look at what I have with Amen, Jabari, and Tari and see a pathway being much clearer to contend as a long athletic FAST team who can switch everything and be a matchup nightmare.

So if we take the negative approach of seeing no path to contention with this current group, if I’m Stone I probably deal Sengun for high draft picks, and young long athletic players who can shoot. I probably see next season Jabari’s role changing to more of a stretch 5 and hopefully he gets that grown man strength over the summer.

I think it might be good as well for Sengun if he can go play with a team a bit more suited for what he does. I just think given that Sengun and Amen both cannot shoot, it likely means that at some point those two players will need to be separated. Ideally both players will get in the gym this summer, shoot 2,000 shots a day, and come back able to stretch out the floor, but I doubt it…

So yeah I think if this season goes the way it looks like it’s going if I was Stone I would seriously consider trading Sengun and trying to morph into a long athletic switchable roster that can play fast, defend, and win more consistently.
