The only positive out of this season is that we get to hold the rest of KD career hostage so he can’t team up with Wemby or cooper Flagg .

kD still playing like this and personally training Wemby would have been Scary Hours.

Too bad none of our young players are anywhere near a Wemby or cooper flagg

Hahaha, it was more like Durant hearing that the Spurs prioritized Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle and not giving them up over Durant.

Anyone who prefers development over old guys would do that.....Spurs are a developing team just like OKC Thunder.

Yep he was traded here. He didn’t choose us. The only choice he had was signing the extension to get paid which was why the rockets traded for him knowing it was mutually agreed to that he’d stay after a year.

The Spurs weren’t an option not just because they didn’t want to give up young players but also because they refused to agree on a big extension.

    Side note but related:

I wonder if Stone could take advantage of the Bucks’ weird disposition with Giannis and get a deal done after the season to send KD to the bucks for at least two of the draft picks they have this summer and salary filler?

I’d like to see what this team looks like next year with a fully healthy veteran support system, but also you see that Stone pretty clearly realizes this team isn’t winning jack of all the stars don’t align and everyone isn’t healthy. With vets you just have to assume too that folks will get injured. So if there’s an opportunity I think you have to consider moving KD this summer imo if there is an option for a big draft haul in a situation like with the Bucks. If not though I’m happy to keep him.

I think his message was his 1st destination were the Spurs and then he had like the Heat and the Rockets as secondary situations.

But yeah, it was not his 1st choice. 2nd choice at best.

Of course he probably did not rule out staying with the Suns if they wanted him......

We would be still a great young team coming off a 2nd seed and would be even better right now. I can only dream of a team that had chemistry like we did last year.

Honestly I don’t understand why he picked us.

The thought of living in San Antonio is the reason he picked Houston.

They have to build like the Thunder. No one wants to live in San Antonio. The biggest free agent they’ve attracted was LaMarcus Aldridge. Houston can actually attract free agents

The Rockets would be better and Wemby's development would have slowed down.

They signed important pieces like Bruce Bowen and H's own Robert Horry in terms of star role players.

Paul Gasol was a bigger name than Aldridge but older yes.

And international star Wemby wanted to exactly be drafted by the Spurs.

I agree that in the past, FA was important but now franchises just lock them superstars up for their primes.

You won't have a crack at them unless they are disgruntled or 35.....

I think his main decision (and good for him... I'd do the same for myself) was to be where he was going to get a guaranteed extension. The Rockets were in a better position than the Spurs to have their young core in a more predictable contract situation so I suspect that the Spurs would be a bit more non-committal and nervous about a big KD extension knowing they were going to need to lock up their young core in a couple years themselves.

I just hope the competitor in him does not grow tired of the rollercoaster ride that is the Houston Rockets and their young core of talented, but deficient players. This was not the situation he thought he was getting into for sure, and I just hope that he is old enough now to be totally fine as a mentor, and not want to go ring chasing.

This just shows neither Udoker nor the young ones can hold down the fort if Kevin Durant or (FVV) ever suffered nagging injuries.

Very unfortunate, maybe in the future, not right now, and probably not next year as constructed without major help.

The Suns would not have gotten Harper or Castle from the Spurs much like the Suns couldn't even get JSJ or Tari from the Rockets. The Rockets probably can recover a FRP back from the Spurs this offseason if Stone was willing.

Durant is not the Rockets' problem. The Rockets problem is an inability to play defense and have enough shooting on the court at the same time.
