Our supposed dogs on D aren’t stopping anyone and the two guys in charge of the Basketball stuff have basically told the fans that it’s not our year. Start one of the guys that commands a lot of attention from defenses 35 feet away from the basket. We’re not going to win anything this season. Go nothing to lose. If KD demands out who cares. Start Reed and Amen can come off the bench.
He’s just too small. He gets the most out of what he has, but he’s playing against the best athletes in the world. He’s just physically not able to compete against the big physical guards. We should have drafted Castle.
he probably would get pulled early from udoka given all the mistakes he's doing. He's also kind of a turnstile on defense and he's shooting terribly
Yeah we should but we kind of need him coming off the bench because we literally have no bench scoring. I do think Rockets should just play Reed, let him learn through mistakes, his shooting is the only hope the Rockets have of actually having a respectable offense but I have a feeling they need to tell him that they trust in him and they believe in him.
Guys, he's been really bad. I don't think Jalen ever had a cold streak like this. His concert dates (e.g. 2/10 fgs) are all January through April. He might not have it. I suppose I'm not against giving him the run, but we should probably start thinking about the possibility he's a bust. We're closer to making an extension decision than we are to his draft night at this point.
he should have been starting after he was rolling months ago. now his confidence is completely shot and he's playing like crap.
After the do-nothing trade deadline, which coincided with two horrible losses, I think we're all eager for the team to do something - almost anything really. You can see Ime fishing for answers too. Isaiah Crawford? Nevertheless, guarantying Reed 30+ minutes a night, even for just a week, seems impossible given his current play and Ime's preference for grinding defenders above all else. But consider this: Reed is the one guy on the bench who changes the dynamics of the offense. Unlike Amen, defenders have to run at him and chase him down. He creates a gravity even if he's not hitting shots. Increasing his minutes might allow him to regain his rhythm AND providing breathing space for everyone else on the floor. Let's look at last night as an example. Reed is 2 for 10 and has 7 points in 22 minutes - not good. But Amen is 3 for 7 and has 8 points in 33 minutes. Reed is -12, Amen is -11. In theory Amen gets more minutes and more opportunity to develop because he can play the defense that Ime demands, but that supposed defense didn't slow down Charlotte at all, nor Boston before them. Which is not an argument for benching Amen, but rather a case for giving Reed the same space to develop instead of finding more minutes for NBA journeyman Josh Okogie (-22 last night - worst on the team). All in all, I don't think more minutes for Reed is a crazy idea given the dearth of available options. Unfortunately, I think Ime's pride would prevent such a move - he might think that making an exception to his defense-first philosophy would undermine him.
Amen and Reed should be playing together almost every minute on the floor. They both maximize each other. Instead often it's a 1-1 type substitution. This further confounds the mess that Stone has put together which is we have had 5 months to find another guard that can dribble and shoot.. and for some reason, maybe it's Ime, he has elected not to go get one.
It doesn’t matter how good our defense is if we can’t score 100 points. But to answer OP Reed has played like dogsh*{ since then Spurs comeback win
Reed has played himself out of any possible starting role with the way that he's been going lately. I love the guy but he has been almost unplayable lately. I truly don't know what the organization is thinking right now though so nothing they did would surprise me. They say they're not in a development stage, yet they did nothing to improve the team for a stretch run. The guard play stinks. I'd personally throw him out there just to see what happens, but promoting him when he's at his worst seems unlikely. I'd probably still do it. How much worse could it be?
Giving Reed more minutes at this time would be an experiment, and I don't think Ime is secure enough to experiment. I think he needs to project authority like a drill sergeant. Ime commands and demands - he doesn't tinker.
And you said Jalen was a bust but you continue to want to give Reed another chance. Why? To me, Jalen was young and streaky but at least able to stay on the court defensively DD LISTEN!
He doesn't start, and won't start because of how teams strategize to attack Sengun and Reed on the other end. The way Ime see's it is he can scheme to hide Sengun on their worst offensive player, or play a zone for stretches, but rarely do teams have enough poor offensive deficiencies to allow for Reed, and Sengun to both ben schemed for their inability to play NBA level defense. I'm sure Reed only fans will flame me for that, or just say that Ime is a piss poor coach blah blah... but if you really want to know the truth that is the reason why Reed isn't starting, and playing alongside Sengun. I said from the beginning of the season when FVV went out that the Rockets should just bite the bullet and start Reed anyways because unless there is a trade that is made (and there wasn't) there is literally no other options for offense and shooting on this roster. It's the NBA... you have to be able to freaking shoot the ball. The numbers are pretty clear that the difference in the Rockets and every other NBA team is the inability to get up 3 point shots with the volume that other NBA teams get them and that allows for deeper runs when the offense is clicking where with us, our runs are just stretches of high difficulty 2-pointers. That's it.... that's our problem.... and it's one that Reed can help with, but you give up the benefit you have on the other end with defense, and there is no guarantee that you'll get open 3 point shots given how the other team can just simply not guard Sengun and Amen from outside the paint. But yeah we are getting to the F it point of the season. If it was me I would be trying anything... including sending Sengun to the bench who I think is a very gifted offensive talent, but a complete nightmare for a coach to strategize a gameplan around.
