Both east coast and west coast writers will ensure Altuve has to wait at least a year or two no matter what his numbers look like, they will forever be upset the Yankees and Dodgers lost because Altuve was awesome.

Completely different sport but Bill Belichick did not make the HOF on his first ballot. A no brainer but possibly delayed due to cheating.

He also spent his entire career antagonizing the very people who are voting for him now.

To be fair, Altuve has battled the odds since the beginning. No team wanted to give him a chance, even the Astros were hesitant to give sign him and give him a serious look. If not for the scout who vouched for Altuve, he may never have made the MLB.

Heck nether Altuve or his father wanted a signing bonus, but the Astros told them it was mandatory. They were just thankful for the opportunity.

Astros drafted Delino DeShields to be the future at 2nd base. He was highly touted as a future star there. Altuve went from AA to the MLB because the Astros were purging everyone to get high draft picks, and they just needed warm bodies to man the position cheaply. As far as I remember Altuve was never a highly looked upon prospect in the minors.

But who’d of thought that in that group of ragamuffins, Altuve, Keutchel, and JD Martinez would go in to do amazing things; while never being highly regarded as prospects.

Even I figured Altuve would be nothing but a place holder until DeShields was ready for the show.

Altuve not only cemented his hold on 2nd base, he won 3 batting titles, an MVP, multiple all-star nods, multiple World Series titles…

Sure the haters are petty in baseball and they litter the MLB hierarchy. So, as they see Altuve as the main nemesis for their beloved Yankees, they have honed in onto minimizing what Altuve has accomplished. For Altuve is 5’5” or 5’6”, and to do what he’s done is amazingly unique, yet to disregard that is seriously unjust and a mirror on any credibility they have.

Pro Football HOF voting is terrible.

Baseball has at least improved, but there will undoubtedly be some in the make him wait camp. He wouldn't be the first to have to wait despite a slam dunk case.

Way too many times with obvious choices not getting in, sometimes for several years. Humans are going to be human, but if you have to pick 3 of

    Robert Kraft
    Bill Belichick
    LC Greenwood
    Roger Craig
    Ken Anderson

There is 0% acceptable reason for the first 2 names to not appear on over 80% of the ballots. Sometimes guys who should be surefire guys don't even become finalists. Unless the person dies (or serious health issue), it doesn't overly matter that some get delayed, but it still drives me crazy.
